Upcoming Champion Select Rework Flaws - Can I Be Punished?

The new champion selection process requires you to pick two roles that you "are best at" or want to play. I often do not know what champion I intend to play going into champion select because I am pretty good at all roles and prefer to counter pick my opponents. If I go into a game being forced to select what role I intend to play, but the opposing team's first pick is TF, I am going to counter pick him with Fizz or Veigar every time regardless of what roles I initially selected. Can I be punished for going with an option that isn't one of the two I initially selected? Or am I supposed to select fill, and rather than filling I take whatever feels right come my turn?

You will be assigned a lane/position. You do not have to pick the champion you have as your intended pick but I do believe you will be punished for not filling your position.

You are assigned a role at the beginning, and if you do not fill that role, then I'm pretty sure it is punishable. However, it is allowed to talk among your teammates to see if someone would like to trade roles with you.

For your example, if you see the enemy pick Twisted Fate, but you're assigned role is support/ADC, you are allowed to talk with your teammate who's been assigned to go mid to see if they would like to switch roles with you so that you could go mid and counter pick with Fizz. If they don't want to trade, though, then you must pick for the role you were assigned (or you can ask to see if someone else would like you to pick their champion for you so you can trade later).

I think people should read up on what the new team builder draft actually does since many in this thread seem to misunderstand the key concept.

When queueing you select 2 roles (or 1 role + fill or simply fill). When entering champ select you have been assigned one of these roles. At this point, you need to play this role or negotiate a swap with another teammember. Anything else is, of course, punishable.

You will not enter champ select with two "prefered" roles, free to chose or change lanes because you want to counterpick. At least not without having the rest of your team agree.

I agree 100%. Sometimes I don't want to go top if I am first pick, but if I say I am going top before I know what turn I pick my champion, I have to go top no matter what? Seems silly.

you can pick fill and hope for the best, and not only that this system works better then someone trolling because they didnt get what they wanted. At least now you can say what you want first

Is there no one else that agrees with me? Everyone thinks this is for the best and won't put you in an unnecessary pickle? Are champion selection trolls really so prevalent that this is necessary? I understand another goal of this is making sure your team isn't filled with five support mains, but are people truly so poor at other roles that they can't even win a few games away from their "main" role?

The good far outweighs the bad. Yes you'll have to play the role you get, but you get a happier team because of it.

If you truly are equal in all roles, then you should have no problem filling and can still bring balance to your team the role you have filled for, or can still counterpick your enemy in the same role.

That is a pretty crappy system imo. Even more than people getting their best roles, I believe team comp and counter picks yield the best results. If my team intends on picking physical damage top, mid, and jungle, I am going to pick an AP champion in one of the roles before they have a chance to craft a horrendous team comp every time. I think that makes me a hero more than someone worthy of punishment.

Wait a minute. This new team builder assigns you a role and if you don't play that role, you are punished?

Absolutely not cool. Who thought up that stupid concept?

Oh, that YOU have chosen. Well, that's ok. I didn't enjoy the idea of the computer assigning me the jungle lane and if I didn't do that, I would be punished.
