An Idea about purposefully annoying spam pings

Not sure if this is the right thread to post this idea in but...

An idea occurred to me during a game where I had a teammate spam pings on everyone as if he was trying to tilt us(via spam pinging literally any death, etc.). However he didn't type at all, so I couldn't just mute his typing and I didn't bother to ask him to stop with the risk of him doing it even more so intentionally. So i was thinking, what if along with the mute button, it didn't just prevent you from seeing what your teammates type but it also reduces the amount of pings you see from them.

I believe I understand why Riot doesn't have it set so muting just disables all pings(so your team still has someway to communicate), but what if muting limited the muted player's pings to; for example, 1 ping every 10secs or something along those lines. This might help reduce the amount of tilting a player experiences from his team.

Maybe with a few changes to this, could this work?

its ridiculous that we still cant mute pings. ping spam abuse has been a thing for like a year now

If someone on the team is harassing with pings, you can go into your audio settings and set the ping volume to 0. Also, I've been told that /ignore playername and /block playername will stop you from both their chat and pings but I haven't tried it myself.

I do agree with you that their needs to be a feature to mute a player's pings in cases where it is a tool for harassment, but Riot seems to be unwilling to do this for sake of team communication.

This idea isn't to flat out mute their pings but reduce it, while keeping Riot's want of communication intact

In that case, Riot could probably implement a system in matches to detect when a player is spamming pings and then reduce the amount they can ping for the rest of the match. Kind of like how it works already, but with additional layers of anti-spam.

it doesnt. its literally the same as /mute

I cannot do that, since I want to hear the sounds of the other players' pings. It is only the ping spammer's pings I don't want to hear AND see. Also, there have been reports here in the forums, that it is no longer possible to specifically mute pings of a specific person. It might have been possible at some point since so many claim it is so, but most likely that isn't true now.

Riot, if a player considers another player's pings harmful for his gameplay, he should be allowed to make the other player's pings disappear fully to avoid getting annoyed/trolled by him.

This is a fantastic idea, I would really like this!

did u actually try this? googling shows that it only works on people in your ignore list, blocking them from messaging you while in game

Idk if you read the reply i made yesterday but the idea isn't to get rid of pings entirely(via sounds or completely disabling) but to reduce the amount you see from a specific player. To give a bit of an idea, say someone's flaming you extremely hard and you really don't want to deal with it; the obvious next choice is to mute them. However, they may realize you muted them and will continually spam pings on you, and for many people, that can get really annoying and tilting.

Restating myself, all this idea is intended to do is reduce how many pings you receive from a teammate within a set amount of time if you have them muted in-game.
