perma ban for chat?

So my friend got perma banned for talking smack. I am a little confused by this given there is a mute option in game. Riot, just want to know what the justification is for handing out perma bans when you have the mute option available. If someone doesnt want to look at chat, they can simply mute that person. But yet, when someone complains about someone abusing chat you smack a perma ban on that individual and tailor towards a soft sensitive society we live in. I have been playing video games since I can remember and $hit talking from everyone was just a part of it and no one took it serious and moved on with their lives, no one was ever banned BECAUSE THERE WAS A MUTE OPTION. Just want your take on this Riot, thanks!

The existence of the mute button is not an excuse for someone to abuse and harass others through chat. The mute button is very similar to a shield. You have it to protect yourself from being attacked, but that doesn't mean the attacker should be free to attack you without being punished.

There should be a "Perma ban" warning if they are going to go that far.

There is a warning. When players receive a 14 day ban for their behavior, they are explicitly warned in their in-client reform card that their next punishment will be a permanent ban.

Of course, it is possible to skip straight to a permanent ban without any prior punishments, but this would require behavior that is so severe that it should be common knowledge that it's unacceptable. This is generally for things like hate speech, death threats, encouraging suicide, etc., at least as far as chat goes.

So, either your friend has had other punishments prior to this, such as a 14 day ban, and was warned that continuing his behavior would result in a permanent ban, or his behavior was severe enough to warrant an escalation straight to a permanent ban.

Mute option is just temporary solution so u dont have to deal with a-hole. Perma ban is permanent solution so noone has to.

I "talk smack" all the time. If your friend was banned, they did a whole lot worse than "talk smack".

If you think that your chat is so totally and completely useless that absolutely no one should even notice that you typed anything....why did you bother typing? You're expecting absolutely everyone to completely ignore what you say. Why take the time to type something that no one will read?
