Ban System Algorithm

I want to learn more about how the auto ban system works because I find myself to be utterly confused. I have had 8 permanent bans this season, and yes, admittedly I am toxic. This being said, some of them are because the auto ban system refuses to take context into account. An example is me explaining to someone that typing "kys" usually results in an auto ban for me. Saying this got that account perma banned, because whilst explaining that, i typed kys. This being said, I have a combined total of over 10k games in league of legends across all my accounts, and I have run into easily over 500-1000 players who have called me the N word, told me to kill my self, etc. But I have only ever received 3 notifications of my reports doing anything. You may be thinking, well what if it was a one time thing for them. Well, same with me, 1 game, typing kys once, perma ban. So unless they somehow link accounts using ip address or something, I'm not sure how the results would ever vary from one person's accounts to another. I'm open to any ideas as to how it works, post your ideas in the comments ^-^. P.S. Like i said before, yes im toxic, I get it, no need to comment "KYS you toxic asshole", i get it.

Outside the bit of code that Tantram shows for 1 report is the same as 9, you probably won't get much more as to prevent manipulation of the system.

Also, keep in mind you only get a notification if your report triggered the ban from the game. Meaning, if your team mate reported then too, then their report may of triggered it.

Oh so what you're saying is only one person will ever receive the notification for a person's report? Never thought about that thanks.

That report has to be the one that got it banned tho

well, not just ban. You'll get the notification if they were punished. Such as a chat restriction.

ya that too, i actually reported 3 people in my last game, they kept spamming the forbidden 3 letters syk and i received 3 notices back to back in my champ selection for the next game before i got kicked form lobby cause i couldn't react fast enough lol

You can data mine the game. I managed to downloadable sound files to use as ringtones and if you are good enough there is someone who has found a list of "key words" it's out there i have seen it and it's pretty long.

That is a list of words censored in game - not a list of punishable words.

i didn't say punishable i said key words, i probably should have made it clear lol

i still laugh at some of the censored ones....toilet, necro, in guild wards2 forums they replace swear words with kitten and i made a post about shades cause necros summon shades... so my post was full of sand kittens instead of sand shades.

Yeah in awesomenauts they replace swear words with Zork and Derpl... it's pretty funny.

In Dark Souls 3 they star out anything on their 'banned words' list. This includes 'nig'. "Knight" is always censored to "K***ht", which results in tons of characters' names quadrifucked. The kicker" It's lower- case sensitive, so your name will be perfectly fine if you call yourself "BITCH ASS MOTHER FUCKER"

In addition to what Pandaa said in another comment, which is correct, note that the system does not take context into account. Your punishments are based solely on your actions - if others are flaming, provoking, or angering you, you should mute them, not retaliate, and certainly not repeat anything offensive they said.

what i said was "typing kys = auto ban". if that was all i said that game, is it possible to contest my ban? I've contested a ban for typing "?" 7 times and nothing else and it was denied due to being a permanent ban. Has riot kept this policy of never reverting permanent bans or do i just have to make yet another account lol.

It's possible, as you're explaining the system. However, I can't tell you if it'll be successful or not. If that is literally the only punishable line in your chat, you may have a chance.

Further, the second instance of typing ? 7 times, if you're using ? to harass your team when they make bad plays, it could be punishable. Or there was more to the log, I can't say.

i kept typing "?" because they were ping spamming me when shoving the wave. was playing in low elo so they probably thought i was trolling them or something. and thanks for the luck haha hopefully it goes my way. Just got the account to level 30 but it has a name i like XD.

punishment = severity x consistency

There are 4 punishment tiers:

  1. 10 game chat restriction
  2. 25 game chat restriction
  3. 14-day ban
  4. Permaban

Hate speech / encouraging others to harm themselves is pretty high on the severity, so those normally cause people to skip punishment tiers.

Mild toxicity adds up over time, and people will get punished for mild stuff if they are consistent with it.

Anything that can yield a punishment will eventually lead to a permaban if they do it often enough.

I've seen people be on 10 game chat restrict, they get super tilted and throw a tonne of hate speech out and get instant permabanned.

Notifications stuff has been answered by Imperial Panda already, so I don't need to repeat that.

darn, tbh i feel like banning for toxicity is the most moronic punishment in the game :/ i think an infinite chat restriction is the perfect solution, can't find a problem with it, and it solved the original problem.

Riot found alot of the toxics resulted to gameplay trolling instead to grief their team mates.

I certainly don't want more people inting in my games, or spitting me out in the enemy as kench.

thats what id assume they would do too. but if theyre banned they just make a new account and be toxic and troll at the same time. especially because they lose all their skins etc if banned so they have less attachment to the game/account so they dont care as much about the consequences of getting banned again. That's what happened to me. Lost around $1500 of skins and 1000's of hours on my main account to due a bullshit misunderstanding. after that i made it my quest for a bit to just troll and be toxic non stop. Then i reformed to make climbing to diamond faster but still got banned anyways. Been a wild ride this season.

Riot permabans people to show that they aren't welcome in the game.

Some people get tired of it and leave the game, some choose to stay and troll (and get banned again), some will come back and reform after a harsh lesson learnt.

Except the game is just getting more toxic with more trolls now because only chat leads to bans, not in-game behavior. More and more people just trolling and ruining games and no reports seem to lead to anything but if you tell people they're bad and should uninstall (literally all I ever say in those situations and even then it's like every 100th game when I actually get that annoyed) you are instantly-restricted or banned. The game is becoming more and more toxic to play in but Riot acts like the game is improving because fewer people are getting banned than before, but in reality, the past three seasons have been the three most toxic seasons of league and this one has been the most toxic season of all.

you don't get instant punished for saying someone is bad / uninstall in 1 game.

There has to be a consistent behavior of it. It's not severe enough to warrant an instant punishment.

Yeah usually if you're toxic, you tend to witness more toxicity. I've been called n__r maybe 10 times in the past 3 years. You? 500 to 1000. I think that's because you argue with people and talk shit so obviously you're gonna see shit like that more than someone who ignores toxicity. And yes, you should have learned 7 bans ago that Riot doesn't take context into consideration. Don't type buzzwords.

As far as others getting away with it, maybe they did get banned but it wasn't your specific report that got them banned. I don't know, I don't see why they would target you and let others get away with it, so that must be it. I'm not that knowledgeable on that though, so I don't know, could be some shit I can't think of.
