"toxic" is an overused and frankly annoying word to see

Everywhere in games, on boards, wherever for league people always use the word "toxic" for any sort of behaviour or actions. I just find this really annoying because toxic is not a word to cover any actions, it seems like people just use it because its "the worst you can be"..... Why not say youre being negative, offensive, or you're feeding? Literally anything is toxic to people who play the game. Being toxic is not feeding, afking, or swearing, toxic is harassing teammates and ruining the game for other people by using words in chat. Stop saying "____ person is being toxic" for whatever it may be

It's a general term for any action that could be actionable or is objectionable.

tox·ic ˈtäksik/Submit adjective adjective: toxic 1. poisonous. "the dumping of toxic waste" synonyms: poisonous, virulent, noxious, deadly, dangerous, harmful, injurious, pernicious "toxic houseplants" antonyms: harmless relating to or caused by poison. "toxic hazards"

very bad, unpleasant, or harmful. "a toxic relationship"

FINANCE denoting or relating to debt that has a high risk of default. denoting securities that are based on toxic debt and for which there is not a healthy or functioning market. "the financial system has become clogged with toxic assets"

Some players who swear, intentionally feed, AFK, yeah that's very bad, or UNPLEASANT, and it hurts the teams morale.

Just because YOU, as a singular person, say we as a community should stop doesn't mean we should. The word toxic spreads like a plague, and it isn't hard to see why. People will always want to play the alpha male when shit gets sour, people always want to be the bigger man( or woman) and try to put a stop to it. This forum right here? Toxic. It's bringing out the bad in people to get a jolly good laugh.

Overused? Of course. I actually laugh (silently) when I see people use the word "toxic." I can hear Indigo Montoya saying "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means" every time I see the word used.

When I hear "toxic," I think of poison. "Don't drink Drain-o! It's toxic and can kill you!" There is the word's second definition "very bad, unpleasant, or harmful." I suppose I am just wired wrong. Jerks are jerks no matter what adjective you use to define them. I call them "jerks."

It's just an example of how language evolves. If it weren't politically incorrect to do so, the internet might have started calling jerks "cancerous." But that would cause some issues with those who suffer from the disease or lost friends and family to it.

I do try to use other words than toxic like 'berating' or 'aggressive', because I feel they can be more descriptive.

You go into game and harass someone. They get upset. That person quits caring about morale and goes into their next game harassing 2 people. Those 2 people go into games and harass 4 more people (2 each), etc. That's why it's called "Toxic" because you start something that spreads throughout the game. And honestly, these days of LoL its a huge spread. Most people i meet are ill-mannered and grumpy.

It irks me a little sometimes and carries a heavy vibe of corporate buzz word about it. Having said that, it's the word Rito has chosen and if it wasn't 'toxic' it would be something else that probably sounded just as silly ad nauseum.

Generally yes, I think you have it right in your OP.
