Toxicity is making me stop playing (for a while)

I have no idea where to voice this kinda thing. I've never been on boards or forums much, so I have no idea how much of a shot in the dark this is going to be, but I really need to get this off my chest. The toxicity in this game is starting to take its toll on me and it's gotten to the point where I almost don't want to play the game anymore. It seems like now a days you're ridiculed and harassed for trying other champions, trying to improve your skills, or just trying to have some fun with your friends. To add on to this in hopes of trying to silence these toxic individuals via reporting so that no one else has to go through it feels useless. Someone can say terrible things to you and just get away with it, even if they're reported by numerous people in the lobby. What drove me over the edge was the past two games I've played. The first dealing with a toxic Illaoi who would belittle our top laner for doing poorly in all chat, then move onto our mid laner who just so happened to be trying out the new Leblanc for the first time. The player would say that she was inting and other nasty things. The game after that happened to have a cocky bot lane who would trash talk in all chat from time to time, but the brutality of the game on top of last game banter broke me. I do not use all chat much at all, and if I do it's to throw a "witty" one liner (same, xD, thx m8, etc.) at someone else whether it be them deserving it or me doing something stupid ingame (failing a flash/smite in front of an enemy). I try to be as friendly and constructive as possible and keep the trash talk to myself and out of all chat. I would mute the enemy player, but they'll still stomp on someone, spam emotes and/or their mastery and push your lane. I just don't think I have much more in me. I used to have fun with this game and the friends I've played with, but recently it seems like toxic players have been everywhere and it's ruining the game for me. Champs that I once felt eager to try are now thrown to the side because I don't want to deal with people flaming me for screwing up and stomping me in lane then proceeding to rub it in in all chat. Riot, I don't care about champ buffs or nerfs, I don't care about items tweaks or additions, I don't care about shiny new skins anymore. I care about the community and the degrading of any sort of dignity and respect that there once was. I might touch the game every once in a while, but I don't think I can enjoy it like I used to anymore. I hope the rest of the people playing can enjoy themselves without ruining the time of others.

Take care summoners, Top Braumen Braum

Stuff like this will always happen.

You just have to pray, for these people to get weeded out, because there are players out there like me and possibly you that rarely ever rip people to shreds verbally.

It just doesn't make sense and everyone tilts off of it.

Toxicity will never go away unfortunately. The best option I have found is to mute people. It's incredibly effective.

  1. I mute the enemy team every game. There is literally never a reason to ever need to talk to them or hear them.

  2. When someone on my team starts to be negative, I just immediately mute them and forget about it. Pings are more than sufficient for communicating.

I feel you man. I don't even play anymore unless I have friends with me. It's easier to deal with that kind of behavior when you have allies. There are a few discord communities here on the boards that are pretty chill, look around and find one you enjoy and make some new friends!

Sorry to hear this. It's good that you're just taking some time away from the game, rather than using other unhealthy means of coping with the toxicity. Good luck!
