okay...bans are a bit ridiculous now

i've been playing League for some time...and the ban system recently is prob the worst in any game i've played in the past maybe 20 years? you get banned if you speak and people just cluster up and grp report you...or you get banned if you dont speak in your games...and many more ways to get banned...i literally just got banned on this account that i JUST made a few days ago...for 14 days......i'm not looking for sympathy or anything...i did what i did and punishment is deserved.

but the amount of players getting banned recently has SKYROCKETED due to "toxic"... you shouldn't not get a perma ban for toxic...maybe perma chat restriction but perma ban? seems odd...

also it seems if a group of people report you the system auto-punishes you....doesn't seem right to me... idk

i'm quitting tho going to play WoW and GW2, you have mature filters in this game and people choose to remove them yet you get in trouble for cursing ...very stupid design imo...

so far this game is the #1 MOBA...only due to the fact most other moba's suck or have a large learning curb...once another MOBA comes in with something similar this game will be obsolete i guarantee that...riot just sucks in money and has a automated system that takes care for everything for them in a timely fashion so they don't waste their time... heading to mmo genre now..or dota which is better...

Hey Summoner,

Retaliation is almost never a reasonable reaction to other toxic players. The player you are retaliating against probably wants to see you get upset. When you get into an argument you are just creating new problems for the other players, and the trolls will just egg you on even more. The best thing to do is just mute them and report their behavior.

If you can't control your actions, I suggest muting them upon entering the match by typing "/mute all", or moving the chat window off the screen so you can't read it.

As for being mass reported, they have no extra effect on you. Punishment is calculated per match, not per report. False reports will also not hurt you, no matter how many people make them. https://ask.fm/RiotLyte/answers/133759089858

Punishment also has 4 tiers, and are typically administered in order;

  • 10 game chat restriction
  • 25 game chat restriction
  • 14 day account ban
  • Permanent account ban

i don't mean to sound like a douche...but in most societies it's normal to defend yourself when you're attacked verbally or physically...its called self-defense and you're defended by the laws of society when doing so...in this game you can't respond back or you get hit back with a charge/ban or w.e...

it's like someone throwing you out of their office building into the street and the police comes and you get charged with J-walking....

they need to root out the people instigating issues not people responding to issues...i've personally seen Dev teams say in a rude manner actually to a player a while back " well you're the problem aswell if you respond back..." and they went on...

and i'm not going to contest this...i got a 10 game chat restriction the day i made this account...then 25 the next day and now a 14 day...hasnt been a week of play time....escalates too quick and it's kind of dumb imo...literally if you say something people dislike it can be considered toxic...if i say "play safe at tower so you stop feeding" i've been reported for that...and been hit with a chat restriction the game after that...

it's a bit much to me personally i play games to have fun...if the game doesn't allow me to speak the way i want thats fine ...the game isn't for me...there plenty of other games i can play lol...

OK, you're not getting chat restrictions, much less a 14 day ban, for saying "play safe at tower so you stop feeding". You're going to have to show chat logs on for that one.

As someone who's been playing this game for several years and hasn't gotten a chat restriction, what in the world are you saying to get banned your first week?

i just removed the game...and i just got a email that i got PERMA banned while on my 14 day ban! lol

People are getting punished for the same thing and require the same information. If they did the research themselves (or owned up to their actions) this wouldn't be necessary.

Group reports count the same as individual reports, they just signal the system "Hey, take a look to see if this seems right".

No you don't. You can communicate using pings, you don't have to speak to anyone.

Yeah, that was the old system. It kept piling on chat restrictions, with some people having hundreds if not thousands of games worth of chat restrictions. It didn't work, so they changed it.

It's fine if you decide to leave, just don't leave because of some misconception of how the punishment system works.

common misunderstood myth.

Group reports against don't do anything to you if you haven't done anything wrong. Actually, it would flag a notification, which doesn't do anything if you didn't do anything wrong.

Now that being said, you can defend yourself, just don't become toxic in the mean while, that includes;

  1. Don't ask others to report someone else
  2. Don't swoop to their level and call them bad, noob, or they suck
  3. of course you don't use homophobic slurs or tell them to kill themselves, or even wish them a certain disease.
  4. Don't use sensitive medical terms that refers to people's mental state such as autistic, retard, moron. BTW if you didn't know, retard = someone with IQ 75 or less, moron = 50 IQ or less. Austistic = someone that has problems processing anything around them.

And if that's the type of things you were saying all game, you wouldn't get punished and the person reporting you would start to be ignored by the system.

Not true at all.../all chat "Report this whoever...SO TOXIC"...and they report. Chances are, this new automated system is gonna see possibly 6 reports. This automated system is going to respond.

Yes, and how does the automated system respond? By reading what you wrote and comparing it to what's actually negative/toxic. If it doesn't find it, then it just became skeptical of the 6 people reporting you.

So again, if you didn't write anything out of line you're fine.

Sure....but the problem is that a COMPUTER is trying to make sense of HUMAN emotion, using math and algorithms to appropriate punishment. It will never work.

Humans can't get the emotion part straight in text, why do you think people use "/s" at the end of a sarcastic post?

For making sense of the rest of it, the process is known as Natural Language Processing. The company I work for uses it to make it possible for doctors to skim what's wrong with a patient, identifying various abbreviations and pulling up detailed medical codes for the problems mentioned. We're a small startup and it's pretty successful, especially after we go through some validation, so one can only extrapolate out what fine tuning a company like Riot has been able do.

The system has been proven to be flawed and there are videos of it banning someone who didn't say a word the entire game because he got the other 4 people in his premade to report him in 5 games. Keep blindly being a fanboy.

I know a dozen or so people who play this game personally, and not one of them has gotten so much as a chat restriction. That's why I doubt all these claims of "oh, you get banned for not even talking!", because I see no proof of that being the case, not even remotely close.

how many report systems can be abused actually? this is the first game i've seen that....i personally play mostly mmo's but the other moba i play (dota) actually takes what happened into consideration this is blindly banning/restricting based on number of games of reports...it's the dev's fault for making a crappy/lazy system so they do less work...

Please please please please post ANY proof of this system being abused. Like, ANY... You got banned, I got a 14 day ban about 6 months ago, and I totally deserved it. Please quit saying how easily it's abused whe you have ZERO proof.

there was a vid of people doing a pre-made and reporting one player in consecutive games to see how the system would react...he eventually got banned ill go check for it it was on reddit somewhere...
