No Justice on the Fields of Justice - Inherent unfairness in the LoL punishment system

I've recently received a 10 game chat restriction.

I'm not going to be one of those people who tries to claim that I'm a saint, and am undeserving of this. I'm sure I've had some games where I've been hard on teammates or used colourful language.

What concerns me though is the 2 games which riot has sent me as being responsible for this ban.

In both of those games I was only responding defensively to an extremely toxic and illogical teammate, and in one of those cases I was actually defending someone else, not myself.

The first game i literally started chat by explaining my playstyle to the adc (im a supp main), and explained that because im velkoz, after i use my full combo if you choose to engage i wont be able to provide additional ability support because of cooldowns, so not to go in after my abilities are spent unless there's an easy kill or you can outpoke, because all i can do is AA at that point.

At level 2 the second after i use my e and q and am fully on cd (i actually used my e to save draven after he overextended), the draven, now at half hp, full engages the enemy bot lane who are at 100% and 75% hp. I ping to get back but he full engages and gets destroyed.

He immediately starts telling me im a shit support and says I did nothing and not to play vel supp ever again and spamming question marks across my screen.

At this point, what can one do? Literally not 2 minutes before I had gone out of my way to create better communication for the team by explaining to the adc in full how my rotation works and that on CD there is very little I can do, because I know some bronze adcs struggle with understanding when to engage, not factoring in support cooldown.

So right after my good-natured explanation, I have someone who COMPLETELY ignored it, did the exact opposite, then blamed me and started swearing at me and aggressively flaming me. At this point a feeling of injustice and the hatred of his pure illogic/hypocrisy is brewing inside me.

By the logic of riot, if I respond in kind, flaming him back and using "offensive language", then I am equally guilty.

I absolutely told him that he was a piece of S*** and allcaps flamed at how incredibly unfair he was being, referencing the fact that i had JUST explained this to him, and that he had completely deaf eared my explanation of my limitations of playstyle and tried to blame it on me.

Did he address the logic of my statement? Did he try to propose a more synergistic strategy? Did he say "well you have a good point, but I dont really feel that your message was communicated clearly, and I thought your Q was still up"?

No. For literally the next 25 min, after I lied and told him I had muted him and stopped responding directly to him, he flamed in allchat saying how shit I am, and finding new ways to try and justify his claim that I was the worst support ever. He would stand in base at times typing, when there had been a break in chat for 5 minutes just to say "hey guys you know why vel is such a shitty support? Because xyz". In fact we lost turret because he was typing.

I finished 4/3/5 that game, while mid and jung were both around 1/8, and the draven finished 0-13 - my team also said that he was the xayah who had gone 0-13 in their previous game.

The opposing team would respond to draven saying that I was the only good one on the team. Not that how good you perform really matters, but im just trying to clearly demonstrate that his claims had absolutely no basis.

In the other game there was an extremely toxic illaoi who for 20 min spammed all chat talking about how our midlane should die or is f****** garbage because of an uncoordinated gank, and after 20 min i told him to "stfu you pos" and that he was f******* trash, and just to play etc. because at this point he was 1-9 and being extremely toxic with no end in sight.

Im not necessarily blaming riot because i understand that with the sheer volume of reports it's prohibitive to make a more case by case system, but im just a little bit offput that a toxic individual can report me for calling them out on their toxicity, using the same terms that they used, and I will receive a chat restriction or ban. It fosters a sense of helplessness injustice - toxic players can flame or personally slander me for unreasonable or over the top reasons and I'm not allowed to give them a taste of their own medicine.

That doesn't seem very just to me.

Riot does not care about context. They feel that the only form of defense is mute/report. Anything else is flaming, detracts from the gameplay from the rest of the team and is punishable.

At this point, what can one do?

Mute him. Typing back will only land you in hot water.

I'm always curious why people think it was the the person they were arguing with that reported them. If I have these sorts of situations in my games I'll mute both people and report both at the end of the game. They both contributed to making the game awful. It's just as likely (perhaps more so) that other members of your own team reported you.

like 10 posts a day on here just like yours. Here is the bottom line, as a fellow "toxic" who agrees with what you are saying. The reality is youre wasting your time arguing your point here. This forum rarely gets read by RIOTers, and is NEVER read by RIOTers who plan on changing anything. Its a forum of SJW loonies defending the automated system, and a handful of (helpful) people who are just strictly pointing out what is getting flagged. Totally agree the system sucks. Work within it however you want, toxic or not. Just dont type at all. thats the bottom line.

I'm not allowed to give them a taste of their own medicine.

What purpose is served in giving them a taste of their own medicine? Does that ever make the situation better for you? In my experience, that kind of thing just adds fuel to the fire. You've doubled the amount of toxicity in the game, making things even worse for the rest of the players.

If you flame someone who is flaming, you get a forest fire. Smokey the Bear wants you to help put out forest fires.

In other words, you're off-put by the fact that a toxic player can report another toxic player, and the system works as normal?

You stooped to their level, you insulted and harassed your teammates - that's not "defending yourself", that's retaliating.

Defending yourself would be something along the lines of "sorry, cooldowns" or "ease up, dude" - not "you're a piece of shit" "you're fucking trash", etc. That's - again - retaliating.

If you can't defend or deflect flame tactfully, just mute the player. Don't say you muted them and not do it, mute them, and be done with it. Besides, if they're flaming, odds are high they've nothing good to say anyhow. Stooping down to their level and being toxic back at them is just going to cause you problems.

Let me stop you right here before I read onto the rest of everything.

You are given 1-5 recent games as examples of unacceptable behavior. It doesn't mean you were punished for those games alone.

Think about every game that you had colorful language but didn't get punished. Those all contributed towards your punishment.

On the same token, if someone is using colorful language and not getting punished, it means that it is building a case against them, and if they keep it up, they will be punished just like how you were punished.

After knowing this, tell me if I needed to read the rest of your post, or does it answer your question / concern already. If you have more questions, feel free to hit me up.
