hey so just throwing this out there

is there a reason why girls get shit for playing? take twitch for instance - 99 out of 100 comments are pervy and completely unrelated to reality or game play. this afternoon i q'd up with a group I had previously played with, they asked me why i dont do skype and truthfully i don't because im a girl. one dude said 'why, are you afraid of being raped?'

guys like that are why more girls dont play. im not a baby, and i dont talk much, but i shouldn't have to sit back and take it and neither should any other girl. if there's such standards for correcting hate speech, homophobia, and racism, there should be something said for gender equality too.

You seem to be missing the point. As a guy, I don't need to hide my gender. In fact, if I wanted I could go around telling everyone "Hey guys, I'm a guy". I would receive precisely 0 "what are you doing here? Go take out the garbage" comments. 0 requests for nudes. 0 creepy people trying to seduce me through a video game.

Now it's not my place at all to tell you how you should feel. If you are comfortable hiding your identity, then that is your right. I still feel like a more ideal world would be one where no one had to hide who they are for fear of harassment.

I'm not worried about hiding my identity. I posted that I was a girl to show people that even tho I'm a girl, it doesn't bother me what guys do online because I could care less. but to broadcast it in games to randoms asks for trouble. League is full of High/Middle school drama.

I don't hide it. I tell people if they ask and if they act out of conduct I delete them. Simple as that, and I will never see them again ever with the millions of players down in bronze.

I'm pretty sure in a typical game you don't go "Hey I'm a guy." No you don't because it's stupid, no one should really care what your gender is as long as you play your best.

So why should girls be able to flaunt it and not receive any type of feedback?

So should women who work construction have to put up with it too? Policewomen? What about female politicians? All of these are mostly male environments. Should we tolerate these women being harassed? What about black people? Are they not in a predominantly white environment? Does this mean they should just put up with the harassment?

  For that matter, I work in education. I'm one of the roughly 1% (made up figure, but it's pretty close to that) of men working in this predominantly female environment. I don't need to put up with sexists telling me to go take out the garbage. And if I did, I would think it fucked up and I would complain about it. But as it happens, the worst things I have to put up with is that sometimes the messages are addressed in the feminine (doesn't really apply in English). Oh and I did once get some nail polish at the Christmas mystery gift exchange. I didn't even need to say anything, the next year there was a written memo saying "Please remember there are men here as well when you buy your mystery gift."

         Again I can't help but feel baffled by what you are writing. You are like the token black guy on Fox news, telling black people that they should just sit down and shut up. I agree women who don't want to be harassed online shouldn't go around telling people they are women, and I think it's messed up.

   I don't know what you mean by "flaunting", but I don't see why that would make it any more acceptable to harass someone. I can "flaunt" being a male, or French, or Canadian, or a nerd etc. all I like and I won't receive harassment. Especially not on the order of magnitude that I would receive from simply saying I am a girl (which is not "flaunting")

      Moreover, you to seem to be basing your reasoning on "Guys are jerks sometimes", which is in itself a sexist observation. I agree many guys act like jerks to women in male dominated spheres of society : I think it's fucked up and I would prefer if they were not. I would also prefer if you did not excuse them by saying "That's how guys are". That is NOT how guys are.

Those are professional environments, acting out of line in those types of jobs could cost you your job.

and to be honest black and white harassment kind of goes both way these days.

It's a fact of life that people are just going to act out on other's differences. Sure it's wrong but that doesn't stop the child from sneaking cookies before dinner.

You can tell people to stop certain actions, but does that mean people have the power to stop certain actions completely? No, not really, but others can enforce it. But some people will still continue these actions.

I guess as a girl I could probably have problems with other girls going onto games flaunting their gender around just to get rouses out of guys. and then they get all upset when stuff like this happens in a mostly MALE ENVIRONMENT.

I sit there and think, "Really? You're complaining about someone giving you the wrong kind of attention when you were clearly asking for it?"

Especially the age group that plays which consists of mostly teens and young adults. Ever been to high school? Yea... guys still make comments even when there isn't even a girl around. Then a girl says that they're a girl in game and what?

Does she expect them to be nice to her even if she feeds? Does she expect them to give her most of the kills? Does she expect....

You get the point, I on the other hand expect guys to be guys.

And apparently so do other guys.

Let me tell you, I know a few "Guys" on games who act and look like females.. We call them "Traps" because guys give free stuff to girls. Or whatever reason they may have... CREEPERS...

So sometimes, hitting on that girl may be a road you regret...

i miss having having smart female gaming friends. i would ask for a sandwich, they would ask for a car in return or say i need to come over and pick it up (them being in ohio and me being california).

Most girls these days either bring teh drama or hide from being female...

Man i remember when females only existed in a kitchen.... the simpler days. Then they brought laptops to kitchens....

Now for a rant. This is not a comment about the OP or anyone in particular but more a societal view.

Part of the reason that males are like this is because they are now being raised poorly.

Another part of the reason is that Chivalry is now sexist.

If I open the door for a woman it doesn't mean that she can't do it herself. It means I was raised to be polite...

If I look a woman in the eyes it doesn't mean I am flirting... it is just polite.

If I step up and try to protect a woman it doesn't mean your weak...... it is just right to defend others.

Act's like these are now vilified. When you take away kindness you are left with indifference or hate.

I open doors and hold them for anyone, man or woman, old, young.. whatever. If you were raised to be polite, then I suspect you do the same.

I make eye contact with anyone I am interacting with. As you said, it is just the polite thing to do.

General society treats chivalry as sexist. This is not my opinion as I believe chivalry is a code of honor and values that is applied to all forms of life. Not just women and men but all things. However acts of Chivalry as I outlined are vilified and treated as negative by a large amount of people.(what I believe to be a very vocal minority) These individuals are a very vocal group that tend to be taken as representative of society.

Based on what I took from your comment we are probably in complete agreement. I just thought I should clarify my statement as it might have been misconstrued .

Cause I have the mentality of "I really don't give a fuck." Honestly, if TOMORROW they said "the word Female is now going to be cows, have fun." I'd say "lol moo."

I have a friend online who flirts endlessly with me, and I honestly don't care because they're just wasting their time, and children will be children.

if you are afraid of being harassed by them, why are you playing with them. I personally only play with people that I tolerate, and willing to do voice with.

Honestly you learn more about a person on voice than you do just playing with them.

As a female myself, I feel like you should know that you saying "I'm not gonna use Skype/Discord/any type of voice chat because I'm a girl" is YOU asking for guys to make comments like that towards you. I use both Skype and Discord, depending on who I'm playing with at the time. Do any of them care I'm female? No, they don't. To them I'm just another friend who enjoys playing League just as they do.

In game I'm whatever gender my character is but if someone asks I'll tell them I'm female. Heck, I had a game where I was playing Vel'Koz, messed up his combo, and someone made a comment towards me about it. My friend responded with "she messed up, it happens." Someone else on our team asked how he knew I was a she and my friend told the person he's my friend. Did I care he said I'm a girl? No, because I'm perfectly fine with people knowing.

And while I have my fair share of perverted comments and rude remarks, I've always NOT CARED. Depending on the comment I'll respond with, "I have a boyfriend, try again at a later date." then ignore that person if he makes a perverted comment or say "Let me go find a care to give." if they're just being rude about a female playing video games.

I'm also in a Discord channel, where there's quite a few females who play League. Do any of them care? No. Hell, two of them are married to guys who also play League. We just laugh at the stupid shit said to us.

If you're proud of being female, these types of comments shouldn't bother you. If you can't handle them, DON'T LET PEOPLE KNOW YOU'RE FEMALE! Simple as that. I don't care, none of my FEMALE friends care, heck none of my guy friends care I'm a girl. The only ones who I know that get pissed/annoyed about people making perverted/rude comments towards me or my female friends are our significant others and our guy friends.

TL;DR, Be proud of yourself or don't let people know you're a female. Simple as that.
