NOTE: I posted in General Discussion, then it was suggested to me to also post here. Link to OP: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/GD/0dFGwM3b-banned-for-use-of-custom-skins

Alrighty Summoners!

I'm here to discuss why I was banned, and why I feel it may have been a false positive. [zombie-nunu-tears] Last week I received an e-mail letting me know:

Your account: drock55555 was banned due to the use of malicious 3rd party programs or modifications to your League of Legends client. We believe that all players should play on equal footing in an effort to promote competitive sportsmanship. You should be aware that modifying your League of Legends client is against the Terms of Use: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/legal/termsofuse. We hope you can see that it is unsatisfying to play against other players who are using a tool to gain an advantage over others.

I followed up through the support ticket the last week and after discussing with Player Support, their final answer was:

I must reiterate that we cannot comment on programs that we do not officially support. However, our system did detect usage of exploits that seriously violated our Terms of Use. In the end, we will not be changing our decision regarding this case.

The confusion I had with my ban, as many others have within the past week. The only modifications I have made were the rebinding of my Champion Mastery Emote to my spells (Q,W,E,R,D,F), and I installed custom skins via a program called Wooxy. The programs only function is to add purely cosmetic changes such as custom skins for champions and maps as I screenshot below. While using the program I had three skins which were Demon Illoai, Dark Side Yi, and Surprise Party Rengar.

I did some poking around viewing my files to reassure myself of any modifications that I was not aware of, and my findings validated my suspicion. The only files affected/modified were the config file to rebind my Champion Mastery Emote, as well as some champion models due to the skins I had. For those that are interested, screenshots below with a short description of where the file path is.

With all that being said, I want to know opinions and hear from others affected, because to what I see and know about the usage of custom skins, they are more of a warning instead of an instant perma-ban by Riot.

Thank you for your time, and I hope you all Stay Victorious!

Heya Derrick,

I appreciate the thoroughly documented screencaps, but we don't currently suspend for the use of Wooxy or other skin installers (if that's their only functionality). You were detected using a scripting application, and even though your account was being shared at the time, we still hold it responsible for the actions taken.

I've spent some time investigating your claims, and like some other cases recently, it looks like you allowed someone else access to your account in October of last season. They played a few games on your behalf (34 to be precise), and while it may've gained you a few divisions, it also netted a permanent suspension for the abuse of 3rd party programs.

It's also important to note that boosters tend to utilize cheats for a faster service, and because banwaves are delayed to appropriately occlude detection methodology, they can do some significant damage to your ranked integrity. There's never really a good reason to share your account, and those seeking additional security guidelines can level up here.

People, just like with the other users who have claimed they were wrongfully banned, there's always the possibility the OP is full of it and was using some sort of 3rd party program, or as it seems to be the case lately, got boosted and that other person did so.

If this isn't your case, then I hope your situation gets resolved soon.

i saw a post about a person getting perma banned for changing the aspect ratio of the game client so honestly i'm not shocked, they seem to be super sensitive about tampering with the game files.

That being said, i have always been interested in downloading custom skins. Youtubes such as kshaway use custom skins all the time, so i figured it was harmless. Riot employees even said they bust out the popcorn and laugh at kshaways "very serious x champion montage" series, so why is it taken so seriously?

Hopefully they restore your account, if not i guess im never downloading custom skins.

What upsets me is users like this: http://boards.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behaviour-en/jTOrb7hE-i-have-an-important-question-please-reply-preferably-riot

He got a warning for using MKLOL, which includes timers and other addons to affect gameplay, and was given a chance to reform. If they want to ban for Custom Skins go for it, but my issue is as ISmokeOregano said, straight to perma seems harsh. Im just looking for opprotunity to reform, thats all.

"You should be aware that modifying your League of Legends client is against the Terms of Use"

"The only modifications I have made were..."

You broke the terms you get banned what's not to understand?

I don't think people should use custom skins. Should have to buy the ones everyone else has to. It is probably more about loss of money than affecting gameplay. Who would buy skins if you can just make them yourself? They need to make money somewhere to run the game.

youtubers post vids about them useing custom skins all the time and they are not banned which i find very unfair. If normal players which are 99.9% of their player base are being punished everyone should

I think the thing is: Although you didn't do anything that actually break the balance of game, that program you are using, however, has the ability to do so. And Riot cannot give you the permission of using it. And the act of using such a program is claimed clearly as bannable. It doesn't matter what you have done with that cheating program, the fact that you are using it is enough to get you banned.

Man, I have been trying to get a rioter for the past few days to reply as well :/ even support has not even contacted me. If you have seen my post previously I have stated multiple times I did not hack at all. I have many accounts, why is it my main is the one that gets perma banned :/ I have a mental disorder/illness as I have been told where I get emotionally attached to anything I have been for a long time and I have had this account for 3 years and the perma ban in which I have had is causing me so much stress and grief.

I keep stating I have not hacked once in my life on league and if it was a third party application that I have not known about please let me know and I will delete it instantly but even still I do not use third party applications :/ like once my nvidia program told me I can change me aspect ratio and resolution to something that was not on leagues client and it modified it for me. It ended up looking ugly so i changed it. I tampered with the league client because i was having stuttering actually last month which ended up fixing it and now thag people mention it i seriously feel like that was the reason i got banned :/

Please all I want is a way to prove that I did not hack! Please just some way :(

you were banned because you did not use teemo.

I'd also like to point out, I'm 90% sure this is what the youtuber Brofesco has recently used as per example in this video "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnmMPFhp_BE" So I'm unsure how Riot responds to these kinds of things. In which this "Wooxy" program has been used to use that custom skin.

Anomander1/15/2016, 4:01:27 PM1 votes

Did you mod game files? Then good luck getting unbanned. If I was riot I would ban for this as it affects money spent on the game. This is a free to play game whose income come primarily from skins.

Ravvynfall1/15/2016, 4:39:42 PM1 votes

Not going to lie, if this is all legit, it is pretty hardcore BS that you got a perma-suspension for using custom skins. if you are not impacting the actual quality of game by cheating, then who the hell cares if you want your champ to look different with a custom skin?

I really hope they give you a second chance on this, because it is insane to ban someone for this.

Hello MirageOfPenguins (and Riot SlumberJack),

I understand what you both are saying, my confusion is truly this. I was not aware of any other user playing on my account during said time. I do admit another person had logged onto my account before in December of 2014, which I know is an issue in it of itself, but they were not playing games to my knowledge. I was myself playing ranked bouncing between Silver III and Silver I, but I do not recall noticing any odd changes or anything to make me suspect that another user was on my account.

While I do understand that use of 3rd party programs to obtain an unfair advantage is a severe offense and the proper action needed to be taken place, what I was hoping for with my posting to boards is a chance to speak with Rioters about it to see if there is any opportunity to correct the situation and allow users such as myself a chance to reform.
