WHY EVEN HAVE A MUTE BUTTON?! better yet why ban people for words when you have a MUTE button?! MAKES NO SENSE...Yea i can see people using racial slurs ect but telling people wasting your time by feeding or troll picking(by the way these people have free reign and get in absolutely no trouble like what the??) The creators of this game are like Nazi Germany, perfect example of this would be RiotPhreak, tons of videos of him being "toxic" all over YouTube yet he never has been reprimanded..If you are a favored player you can do what ever you'd like... Robbing people of hundreds of dollars over words. We are all taught at a very very young age a saying, sticks and stones.....Apparently riot has never heard of this. I find it ridiculous also that you ban me for 14 days for defending my self yet i didn't get the notification that the other players who are 10x more "toxic" got the same treatment. Like how is asking someone to play safer that is 0/10 @ 15 mins toxic or mentioning the fact he has a 21% win rate?!?!?!?! oh ban me for saying this type of stuff after i spend 100$ on skins and champions. Like what kind of cry babies made this game?! I can see banning someone who is saying racial slurs ect but to ban people because they're asking trolls not to troll?! I mean like holy shit you have a damn mute button? Riot is making the same mistake blizzard made years ago on World of Warcraft..Thinking they can spam ban people for language when there is a mute button...Yet they let people feed and troll wasting tons of other peoples precious time. Blizzard did this too when WoW was at its height of popularity and found out quickly that people will eventually get sick of your communist style iron fist ruling and before you know it you'll lose a massive player base and have no way to gain it back. Maybe you should focus on cleaning up the people who dislike a pick, or didn't get the role they wanted so they low key troll games? These little cry baby types need to go... Like i for one would much rather have some kid on my team who calls out the 1/15 mid lane a few times and does well over the kid who got auto filled support takes zed dies 8 times then afks in my promo. BUT THAT ZED SUPPORT IS HELLA CHILL WITH RIOT hahha but shit god forbid someone tells this dude he sucks, or hes acting like a baby--better ban this guy hes so "toxic" Wonder how bad the creators of this game must have been bullied to have this type of outlook? Like wake the hell up RIOT, if you took care of the troll people in ranked games who waste peoples time and stop banning everyone who calls someone bad WHEN YOU HAVE A GOD DAMN MUTE BUTTON you'd probably have a much better game/community. Like youre well known in the gaming world for having the absolute worst community right now. CLEARLY what your doing isn't working. So how about urge people to use the MUTE BUTTON FEATURE instead of banning for things like calling the 0/13 Jayce support out and telling him to stop trolling because he didn't like the jhin mid pick. This same Jayce who has a few good games here and there then a ton of games with scores similar and an AMAZING 21% win rate. Derp i got an idea lets ban the kid who had 20 mins of his time wasted instead of the 21% win rate Jayce.

To address your main points:

  1. Both trolls and verbal abusers are a problem, but trolling is harder to detect and prove intent wise than simple verbal abuse cases are. This doesn't mean that trolls are never punished, but rather they often go unpunished for longer than they should due to the IFS not wanting to punish players for having a bad game or two.
  2. The mute button =/= a get out of jail free card. It is there to help prevent further toxicity, not condone it or give you an excuse to behave like a jerk.
  3. There are ways of giving constructive feedback without coming off as a jerk. For example, "try to hug your tower more to avoid ganks easier" is helpful advice whereas "stop falling for their ganks you noob" is not helpful advice. Regardless though if it's clear that the person is not receptive of the advice then just drop it and move on rather than continuously pester them about it all game long.
  4. Spending money does not exempt you magically from the rules. Everyone is treated equally regardless of money spent, and if you're unwilling and/or unable to follow the rules and interact with others in a mature and respectful manner then Riot and the LoL community don't want you here. To quote Kei143:

When Riot permabans someone, their philosophy is "the chances of this guy reforming isn't a whole lot, we'd rather not have him in the game". Thus in their eyes, they have already written off the toxic player as a paying client.

From a business standpoint, do they want to remove the toxic guy who has spent $500 but is causing a negative environment for 4-9 other players in every game? Those non-toxics are also spending $500 and probably will spend more, promote the game more when they are enjoying the game AND they won't cause a negative environment.

I personally think it is a fine argument to protect the ones that are paying money and aren't toxic rather than protecting the ones that may pay the same amount but are toxic.

The bottom line is that this is is not a matter of being a snitch or thin-skinned, it's a matter of not wanting players who only want to cause trouble for others in the game. If you can't or won't interact with others in a mature and respectful manner then multiplayer online games are just not for you.

P.S. Maybe the ones who need to man up are the ones who think that it's okay to ruin things for everyone else and not be held accountable for doing so.

{quoted} WHY EVEN HAVE A MUTE BUTTON?! The mute button is to protect the other players from you, plain and simple. It's so that the people who do not want to listen to the things you are saying have the right to silence you during the match BEFORE they report you after it, and it works very well in that regard.

I find it ridiculous also that you ban me for 14 days for defending my self yet i didn"t get the notification that the other players who are 10x more "toxic" got the same treatment.

You only get the notification if yours is the last report that is submitted prior to the player being issued a punishment. If even one other player in your match also reports that same player, but submits their report a fraction of a second after yours, they will get the notification instead of you. And you were not banned for defending yourself. There is a difference in defending yourself, and retaliating towards other players. Defense is saying "I am not feeding, my score is 15/1/3." Retaliation is saying "How am I feeding? You have more deaths, you're 0/7/2. You're the feeder." Defense focuses only on your actions. Retaliation focuses on direction attention towards someone else.

Like how is asking someone to play safer that is 0/10 @ 15 mins toxic or mentioning the fact he has a 21% win rate?!?!?!?!

It's not toxic if you say things like "It's okay man, it's a rough lane. Just try to play safe, I can carry this. I'll come gank for you. I'll roam to you as soon as I'm 6. Can you ward top/bot side so I can come gank for you? We can kill him to get you back in this. Try building some MR/armor. A hexdrinker/adaptive helm/banshee's veil might help against that (insert AP champ). Maybe try getting early ninja tabi/seeker's armguard and then finish your first item?" Any of those are polite, helpful ways of saying "you are feeding your ass off, try this instead before you cure world hunger single handedly one lane at a time." They aren't toxic, or condescending. If the guy doesn't listen, and keeps feeding, then block him after the match, report him if he was inting or trolling, and be glad that odds are you will never have to ever see him in another match.

But if you go out of your way to point out someone's score, that is rude. And, it serves no real purpose. It's not going to help you win the match in any way. News flash, that player knows what his score is. He doesn't need you saying it multiple times in chat. And when you do, for the sole purpose of pointing out how badly he is doing, it becomes a type of harassment. As is bringing their win rate into the game. All you will EVER accomplish by telling your team that a player has a 21% win rate is demoralizing the other players. You will make them think that they stand no chance of wining with someone like that on their team. Which, if you hadn't told them that, they would have still played with the mindset that the match was winnable. Feel free to google the psychological and sociological effects of player mindset in sports, but it's commonly accepted that believing that a game is unwinnable makes it much harder to win, while believing it is winnable makes it much more possible to win.

oh ban me for saying this type of stuff after i spend 100$ on skins and champions. Like what kind of cry babies made this game?! I can see banning someone who is saying racial slurs ect but to ban people because they're asking trolls not to troll?!

The amount of money spent, or even just being a paying customer does not give a player any special status with regards to breaking the rules. Especially when players are given multiple warnings (two chat restrictions and a 14 day suspension typically, in the absence of major rule violations.)

Like i for one would much rather have some kid on my team who calls out the 1/15 mid lane a few times and does well over the kid who got auto filled support takes zed dies 8 times then afks in my promo. BUT THAT ZED SUPPORT IS HELLA CHILL WITH RIOT hahha but shit god forbid someone tells this dude he sucks, or hes acting like a baby--better ban this guy hes so "toxic"

You might rather have one than the other, but Riot doesn't want either type of player ruining the matches for the rest of their players. There's a LeaverBuster system to catch players that afk in matches, and you have the option to report that player for griefing, inting (if he is) and afking. And if you lose your promos, then you win another match and get back into them and try again. Yes, it sucks, but you suck it up, and stop whining about it like a baby and get over it. Mute, report and move on.

Mute is so no one in game has to deal with you.

A ban is so no one else has to deal with you.

It's a lot easier to prove foul language than it is to prove trolling. Everyone has to start somewhere. I'm pretty new and any time I play a new hero, even when I've played a few practice games with bots to get their abilities down, I tend to not do amazingly well against actual human beings the first few times I play that hero. Plus sometimes your pick just gets countered, and you can't do much except try not to feed the enemy and delay them taking your lane as much as possible.

You might say that you were treated unfairly, but at the end of the day, the way in which you state your point matters, a lot. You saying that someone is feeding isn't going to help your team, and can, at worst, tilt them. You really ought to suggest they do something else instead, and be specific about it. Or if you can't think of anything, then saying nothing is better than tilting your team or getting reported. "Hey X, why don't you and I swap places, so that I help top and you help the ADC. "

If you mute someone because they're being toxic, you probably should report them. The mute button is just so you don't have to deal with them in that game. They can still ping, but can't flame. Reporting the people who say "OMG Insert-Hero-Here you are useless kill yourself," until said people either get permenantly muted, or banned, is an easy solution to getting rid of toxicity and everyone should do it.
