ranking system this season

Okay so I wanted to see if i'm the only one experiencing this but, last season I didn't play a lot but I ended gold 4, this season the placements have put me in flex to iron 1. this is a huge difference. I'm not complaining about the rank given but I don't understand the match making and ranking system. It almost feels broken this season, last season I barely ran into toxic players this season almost every single ranked game i've played has had some of the worst toxicity i've played with. Honestly its quite frustrating. Is any one else noticing this or is it just me?

Let me get this straight. You finished in G4 in solo/duo queue in S9. In S10, you played flex queue and placed in i1?

If that's what is happening, then I have a few questions for you.

Have you completed your flex placements? If not, you are in placement phase where you get increased LP gains and don't lose anything when you lose.

Have you ever played flex queue before? If not, then it's normal for you to be placed in a different rank compared to your solo queue. While the two queues are both ranked queues, they use a different MMR, and you'll have to slowly increase your MMR in flex queue to get it to match your solo queue MMR.
