Why do we lose LP for AFK's?

Why can't riot create a feature that prevents me from losing LP when someone has clearly gone AFK? I mean they can detect AFK for remake and in the post game lobby they are "x'd" out so it's not like they can't determine this. Inting is one thing but one or multiple AFK's is near impossible to win. Can't they make a way to prevent LP loss from the people who didn't leave? Why do we get punished for other people's actions?

Because the alternative system actually encourages toxicity -- if you can convince a player to AFK before a loss by ruining the fun they're having, you can preserve your own LP and effectively force someone to take the entire hit for the team.

It would also be exploitable through "AFK duo accounts" that exist to queue up for ranked games, AFK if their duo buddy is losing, and thus ensure constant LP gain.

Why do we gain LP from afks?

First, because it would absolutely increase toxicity. People flame and harass now when there isn't an incentive. Add a LP incentive to it isn't going to lessen toxicity. Also, probability is that you will gain more than you lose, assuming you don't afk. Every game there is a 44.4% chance you will have an afker, and a 55.6% chance the enemy team will.

It just sucks when the team is doing well and someone leaves for no reason and now I have to lose my LP. It seems like it never happens to opposing teams but maybe I should pay more attention. Maybe it happens more than I realize.
