How does the ranking system work exactly?

I've been playing this game for 3 years and I've been content with being silver...at least I'm not bronze is what I tell myself. Recently though I've been playing ranked to hopefully get to gold and I've been close (I consider s2 close) but I sometimes get teammates who are having a bad day and decide to play League so when they die once or twice they completely tilt and when you ask them to hang in there they either feed on purpose or flame you for saying anything.

I just got demoted to silver 4 haha, I understand I'm on a losing streak but there's only so much I can do when people tilt. My last game we had a Lux as our mid and she went 3/16/11. If she decided to just relax and try her best we could have won since we were only down by a few kills still at that point. But, she kept going into 3v1 and trying to get kills which didn't work which is where her assists came from. Now, i'm wondering why I get paired with people like that. I'm not good enough to carry someone like that. I try until my very last breathe because I've actually won games like that and I still get people who give up before laning phase is even over. I don't care if I'm silver but I have a feeling like I can maybe be gold if I had teammates that tried as hard as I do. It's been happening a lot lately this weekend and it isn't stopping.

So after all that I'm curious if there is a ranking system that see people that aren't doing well on purpose and that some people are tilting and puts them with other tilted players. Should I honestly accept the fact I'm not good enough to carry a player like that? Should I be unhappy when people tell me to F*** off and tilt? Are there still feeders in high ELO? Does reporting them for feeding actually work? I'm sorry if I'm coming off annoying or arrogant.

No. If you are getting lots of bad games it's probably either bad luck, or negativity bias makes you remember all the bad parts of the match and not think about the good. Matchmaking doesn't intentionally try to screw you, though.

There is always room to improve regardless of where you're at and you'll always get some players that want to rage instead of play the game. Just focus on what you can do to improve yourself and win the match and ignore them. If you're getting flamed be sure to mute them.

There will always be "feeding", but it's not always intentional. Everybody has bad games and sometimes no matter how good you are the enemy is just doing better. If their feeding is intentional there is a Feeder Detection system to punish them, so please continue reporting them for it if it's on purpose. It's very difficult to distinguish between a bad game and intentional feeding sometimes, but a consistent history of reports for it will catch them.

P.S. You need to ward more when you are Support and have a Sightstone. You should aim for almost 1 per minute. If you're out for long periods of time with no charges then you need to recall more often.

Thanks for the reply. I actually found an in depth article about it. Apparently I suffer from the Dunning Kruger effect also. I just think I'm better than I actually am. I should have noticed I've always been between Silver 4 and Silver 1. Never below or above.
