Reporting System (Unsportsmanlike / Offensive Language)

It has been a while since a reporting system changed; and** I do not think it is working properly.**

The only concern that I want to bring out about the system is first two categories: Unsportsmanlike and Offensive Language (Forgot the main category for this).

  • Summoners tend to report a person who just had a bad game as saying offensive language and/or unsportsmanlike.
  • Note that reported summoners did not do any unsportsmanlike behavior nor offensive language.

    • It also happens when they mute others and not saying a single alphabet.
  • Reported summoners (I would call 'the innocent-reported') get a message from Riot saying 'Reported... Offensive language...'

  • It would affect their behavior status in a bad way even though they did nothing wrong; unless giving their effort is a wrong behavior.

I cannot come up with ideas to fix this problem: rage-report. I am creating this discussion to see if there's a solution or suggestion could be made since the innocent-reported definitely would get more stress beyond a lost game they had. It also will take them away from playing League.

(Based on my experience and friends/aquiantances' sayings.)

Unfortunately, I don't think there is anything anyone can do about "rage reporting". I think with the system in it's place, those who "rage report" (I like that term by the way, I'm going to have to use that more often) the weight of their reports will be dropped and eventually mean next to nothing.

I think this is a good conversation to have, but I don't have any solutions unfortunately.

The solution is actually rather simple, Riot should wait to give people the "you've been warned" pop up until after it's checked the chat logs and gameplay to see if it's warranted a pop up.

I'm going to admit, I'm a recovering toxic player ( I don't want my account banned permanently because I've spent a lot of time and money on it, plus I think their 4 strike system is stupid as chat restrictions do NOT work as you can AFK bot beginner dominion matches til it's done) and I have gotten "you've been reported for offensive language" a couple of times since I came back on the 1st. All of these games I have said a whole Three words - "Called lane (jungle, mid, etc)" "Enemy no sums" "gg(I wait to say this after the enemy team has said it first)" and every time the pop up comes. It's stupid how riot has a system that is basically warn and punish first, then checks to see if it's warranted.

I will go as far as to say the system PROMOTES toxicity. "Well, It's going to warn me anyway when I do nothing, might as well warrant the warning" That's the sign of a system Not working, and riot isn't looking at it at all.

I prefer to actually use RIOT's language about reporting.

"Deliberately making the game harder to win."

This means, that "bad" game may actually have been intentional feeding and unsportmanlike EVEN THOUGH you THINK it was just a "bad" game.

My biggest problem and source of frustration in this game is the player that feeds and despite my attempts to help them refuses to change their behavior. I ask them to come duo with me. I ask them to stay under tower, I ask them to not tank team fights on a mage. But these players CONTINUALLY do it. One death because you're bad is acceptable. Two because your still learning how to avoid a skill shot, fine. 3 in 3 minutes... really hard to recover from... 5 in 5 minutes is "deliberately making the game harder to win."

My guess is a lot of those "rage" reports are true. You were "a jerk" (per RIOT post about how to avoid behavioral punishments) and you "deliberately made the game harder to win" EVEN THOUGH you think you weren't.

If you steal a candy bar and then deny that you did it. You still stole it and the camera caught you. You may not be punished for it right then and there... but they caught you.
