Some thoughts on negative attitudes and flaming in ARAM

Hi all,

I recently finished an ARAM that was extremely unpleasant and a little disheartening.

Prior to the start of the game, I was given Udyr (he's in the free champion rotation), and I was out of re-rolls. Thus, even though I had never used this champ before, I thought I'd give it a go. It's an ARAM, right? No big deal.

I went something like 7/10 -- not the worst game of my life -- I've done worse with champions I'm more comfortable with. However, throughout the entirety of the game, I was subject to verbal abuse. I would be at less than 20% health, and my teammates were flaming, saying "Good job just standing there, Udyr," "You're not help," and the classic, "uninstall."

Although flaming is obnoxious in ranked, it is even more inappropriate in these types of situations where:

  1. You have no idea how much experience that summoner has with their given champion.
  2. It's an ARAM, that basically counts for nothing.
  3. You're hindering someone's ability to learn and master their given champion by inducing stress and anxiety.

The bottom line here, kids, is that this type of whiney behavior in ARAM needs to come to an abrupt halt. Before you give others flak about their performance, why don't you, instead, try to provide suggestions? Or better yet, worry about your own performance alone?

Typically, dying with your team is not a bad thing in ARAM, especially if you are unfamiliar with your champion limits.

It allows you to get HP back and buy items as well, so you will be (on paper) stronger than your opponents, as they haven't backed to spend their gold yet.

Side note, Udyr has a low CD shield and heal on hit, he's good against comps that have low consist damage like tanks. His point and click stun is pretty good for peeling as well in the scenario where your squishiest don't get 1 shot bursted.

They just should fix team compositions in Aram, they are totally messed up and often ruin the games :)
