Use of "Kys"

Nyuxiie·1/13/2019, 6:42:24 AM·7 votes·3,463 views

Why? Why would you say it to anyone you don't know. Whether they're bad at a game or beating you at it, there's absolutely no excuse. Sometimes I won't mind because I know it's not their intention but honestly, it makes me mad. I've had depression along with an abusive childhood and Reddit and LoL have always been my escapes. I know no one should give a heck about that but sometimes telling someone "kys" actually hurts. A lot. Sometimes I'll end a game and cry, it's not very often but it does happen, and probably happens to other people to... I just don't get why this trend started, there's a limit, even I myself enjoy my dose of depressive memes but telling someone to end their life mustn't be taken lightly. It bothers me a lot and it probably hurts a lot of people, more than you'd think. So please, no matter how dumb it might sound, have sympathy. Telling someone to kill themselves isn't flaming, it's way worse. Please remove that phrase from your vocabulary. [sg-soraka]

Maybe not the best title for a post like this.

Chalze1/13/2019, 6:58:37 AM3 votes

The kind of people who say/use it don't actually care about what it means.

The actual reason why it's used all over the place is because it's immediately effective, very quick to type and understandable by all cultures.

Overall it's just very accessible; it's a very low effort relatively high reward insult/curse.

I suggest changing the title if you can, mods might not take kindly to it.

I agree. I hope phrase falls out of fashion soon.

No, actually I believe everyone should care about such things. Anyone should feel ashamed to even think about telling some fellow human they never even met to kill themself. That's the lowest you can achieve in terms of empathy, and someone who doesn't have empathy is about as interesting a human as my dishwasher.

Stay strong, dear. These imbeciles don't mean it, and while that doesn't make them any less stupid, you're absolutely safe from them. Do you happen to own plushies? Bigger ones are incredibly comforting to hug, and even a small bear you can talk to when you need to get something off your chest. It's cheaper than a psychologist, and more cuddly, too!

Have faith! And if you ever want to know what happens to the kind of person who's moronic enough to say such things to other people, there are Darwin awards.

Have an excellent day, dear fellow, and see you around!

"KYS" = "end your life!" "fck yourself" = "Please have a sexual intercourse with yourself!"

Do you honestly think the "fck yourself" means what I wrote? If you doesn't think so, why would you think it about the "kys". It became simply a synonym for "fck off" and things like this.

Sometimes I'll end a game and cry, it's not very often but it does happen, and probably happens to other people to...

Do you honestly start crying because somebody told you something bad once? Or are you chopping onions while you play LoL? O.o

Telling someone to kill themselves isn't flaming, it's way worse.

And this is my point, "kys" doesn't mean this anymore.

Oh look, another thread where someone gets offended by a word on the internet, how unique... This is why we cant have nice things smh.

ModUlanopo1/13/2019, 6:24:40 PM1 votes

The OP has seemingly abandoned the thread and the responses have degenerated into a debate on whether or not "KYS" is an insult. This discussion is already meaningless, as both Riot and the community at large have decided that it is. There was a time in gaming communities where that was not the case, but times and cultures change.

The thread has been locked.

I find many more things even more offensive than that. It's sad how toxic people can get in a game.
