Getting reported for playing non meta.

Hey, so i was playing a normal and i just bought gnar in which i wanted to try in the top lane. I was 2nd pick and first pick also wanted top. I said in chat:''We can duo top? just got gnar i want to try him out.''

Immediate response from 3 of the people in the lobby: ''Kill yourself you're not playing duo top, you're gonna get banned, say goodbye to your account. Get cancer for ruining the game.''

Now before someone says :''You could ask politely''. Please. When playing with little kids, even if we ask politelym they will rage at you for playing non meta or picking fun champs support and stuff like that. So the polite way is not the way. I ended up going duo top after all their flamming. At the end of the game i get the notification: You've been reported for Verbal Abuse Bla Bla Bla. (I muted them the whole game, obviously. Also i didn't use chat.)

So am i getting banned for playing duo top? Can someone from riot answer me please?

NO u arent. Playing off meta is allowed. U can report them for harassment and negative and they will be banned. Feel free to play any champion on any lane you want. Dont let kids dictate how u should play.

In addition to what the other guys said, you don't have to worry about reports like that. You get a notification if you've been reported several times recently, but your chat logs will be parsed for toxicity and the reports will be thrown out; those people will also lose weight in their reports for it.

On top of that, you should report them if you didn't. Every single thing you said they did is harassment and is a bannable offense.

No, you won't get banned just for wanted to play a particular champion/position. It's only if you're a jerk about it.

As for that player, I hope you reported him after your game, because his behavior is unnacceptable.

Asking politely is the best way to go about it. In the end you're playing with other real people, and the goal is to win the game. Forcing your preferred strategy on another person could constitute as refusing to communicate with your team, which is a report option.

If the top laner is fine with it, and you playing as a second top laner isn't going to screw anyone over (like if a support and jungler have already been picked) there's no reason you couldn't go duo top. The meta is there as a general understanding between players, to help streamline picking. You can break that meta all you want, however you need to take the other players on your team into consideration.

Being polite might not get you the exact role you want at that moment, but it IS the way.
