Seems kinda ridiculous especially since I haven't left a game prior to this one instance which was unintentional.

Nope, entirely fair it sucks to happen, but anyone can claim it was a power breaker vs them just turning machine off so to cover the bases you have to slap everyone equally with the punishment as you can't determine real cause https://support.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/201752714-LeaverBuster-FAQ
