No suspension straight perma?

Young Ugly G0d··1 votes·592 views

Hi, I was recently admittedly toxic in a very tilting game (I was tryndamere top vs an annie, AKA endless poke with no counterplay) and after the game it said my account was permanently banned. Isn't there a suspension before someone gets perma'd? Im not sure why i just got straight perma'd with nothing but like 2 separate chat restrictions. If someone could help me out or a rioter tell me why I got perma'd instantly I would very much appreciate it.

If you were REALLY bad and just came off your 25 chat ban, yea.

Rustling Bush2 votes

i heard they really dont do supensions anymore cause it does nothing to fix the problem, toxic players are still going to be toxic when they come back from their time out.

Young Ugly G0d1 votes

So they just assume a player wont reform and just drop the hammer? that seems kinda lazy to me. :(

Marshbouy2 votes

a good 99.9999999999% of players who get 14 day banned just revert back to being toxic in a short period of time. If they didn't start reforming after the chat bans, they won't start reforming after a 14 day ban. According to your other comment though it was because of using the other word for homosexual people.

It's 10 day chat ban 25 day chat ban 2 week ban perma ban

you just skipped a step due to extreme toxicity.

Yes that's what he means. but its not "days" its Games.

Probably hate speech. You can skip a lot of steps for that.

Use any slurs that game?

Young Ugly G0d1 votes

unfortunately yes, I called the annie player in question the other word for "gay" 3-4 times.

Marshbouy4 votes

that'll do it. if you make another account, do not use hate speech.

ModKnightsKemplar3 votes

Yep, that's the punishment.

Don't use slurs, kids. It's not only juvenile, it's wrong. And you'll lose the account.

Young Ugly G0d2 votes

Why is riot so bitchy about shit talk? Literally the only game I ever have played thats bans people for talking shit.

Sukishoo2 votes

Maybe it's because, people don't like being talked to in that way?

Young Ugly G0d1 votes

So fucking grow a pair. The world isnt fucking nice.

Sukishoo2 votes

Man, your ban is well deserved kid :) You'll never get anywhere acting like that.

ModKnightsKemplar2 votes

Well, it's not nice to you because you act like this. Again, don't hate on other people and expect them to be nice. You lost your account because you were being an asshole.

Funny you should mention that. From Ulanopo's Knowledge Base:

“People who report are simply being oversensitive. The mute button exists for a reason.”

Let’s start with the Riot quote on this (link (http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/showthread.php?p=30696571#post30696571)):

Why is verbal abuse punishable if there is a mute button/language filter? Players shouldn’t need to rely on features like the mute button or language filter to engage with other players in positive ways. When a player verbally abuses another player and forces him to use the mute button, they have already created a negative experience for that player.

Simply put, Riot says no. You can scream and cry all you want, but it is their house and their rules.

With that out of the way, I think the topic deserves some further discussion. The theory is that, if people resolved to care less, then they would be happier. I often refer to this as “Argument from Stoicism” and I think it is a fairly weak philosophy because it places the burden on the person being expected to endure the behavior rather than the person exhibiting the behavior. “You should be able to handle it” is just a flimsy excuse for being a bully or a jerk. I have to be the bigger man so that you can do whatever you want? That hardly seems fair.

There is also the issue of how I spend my limited free time. Like most people, I am constantly required to make value judgments between the different forms of entertainment that are available to me and, let's be honest, we live in an age of nearly limitless entertainment options. If I'm having a bad day in League, I can just fire up Steam and play a whole bunch of games that don't require me to put up with someone's BS.

This is not an issue of weakness or thin-skin; it's a question of choosing activities that don't leave me feeling frustrated and angry. Too many of those experiences and I'll just find something else to do. Riot knows this.

Also from Ulanopo's Knowledge Base:

“If you kids report and punish things like this, you’re going to be in trouble when you get out in the real world.”

This is a subset of the oversensitivity argument, but I feel it warrants separate treatment.

You're making the highly unwarranted assumption that the people who punish for "noob" lack real-world experiences. If you were to ask the TBI regulars, you would find that almost all of us are at least in their late 20's, if not significantly older. Most of us have at least undergraduate degrees. So, this idea that we're all naive little children is more than a little silly.

Also, we know that professional players dislike people who spend their time typing because math. Not only are the report rates for the highest tiers not significantly lower than anywhere else (this from Lyte), but the pros know how that kind of behavior affects play. Someone who is on tilt is throwing the game just as much as the person who is playing poorly.

The truth of the matter is that the loose cannons end up having their misbehavior overshadow their skill. Look at Dennis Rodman. There has never been a better rebounder. Ever. But his legacy is not that he was basically a human vacuum. No, it's that he was out of control, both on and off the court.

In short, this is a stupid argument if you know anything about the people who are reporting and punishing you.

shit talking is different than hate speech.

shit talking in small moderation is accepted by Riot, hate speech isn't accepted anywhere.

ModKnightsKemplar3 votes

Slurs aren't shit talk. Slurs are, by definition, offensive language. It isn't wrong of a company to say "freedom of speech" and let people say anything, imo. It ALSO isn't wrong to enforce rules in an attempt to make the community a better space for everyone (except privileged white dudes, which I'm guessing you are).

Don't get me wrong, I'm also a privileged, hetero, cis, white male. The difference between you and I is that I know it, and I attempt to keep the world nice for everyone, not just white males. Does it cost you something to do that? Yes. Yes it does. But the cost is minimal compared to the gains we get in society for treating each other with respect.

That's why Riot enforces the rules. It isn't bitchy, and it isn't harmless shit talk. What you experiencing right now, this anger at having negative things happen to you that feels outside your control, is what gay people feel when you call them "rags." So maybe next time you'll find a different word, and decent people won't label you toxic. I realize that you aren't trying to be. You're trying to have fun and do some trash talk and stick up for yourself, or some similar goal. But the way you are doing it is hurtful to other people.

If you don't care that you're hurting others, you can't expect us to care that we hurt you with the ban. Expecting us to care about your account while you use slurs is highly hypocritical. I'm fine if you want to play a different game where you are free to talk like that. Go ahead. But don't blame the game.

You used a slur and can't figure out why you got banned?

If you would like us to review your chat logs and give you a more solid idea of why it skipped the third tier of punishment, feel free to post them. But it does sound like it was escalated for the homophobic slurs. Riot has a fairly strict policy with regards to any sort of racial/homophobic slurs and tends to punish them quickly.
