i only talked in one game and got instantly banned for 14 days

It actually looks like your friend may have gotten extremely lucky -- the "kill yourself" seen here would usually merit a harsher punishment, and it's possible the system didn't catch it immediately.

As I mentioned earlier though -- hate speech is punished aggressively, and is present in your log and not his.

for context this was an arurf game and i called myself a slur that was not racist and it was not directed to anyone but myself

This alone earns a 14-day ban for hate speech, and can escalate to a permanent ban if your account has had any punishments before. So yes, this is potentially a valid reason for the ban. It doesn't matter if you didn't use a racist slur, or if you directed it at yourself -- you still used a highly offensive slur in front of other players who were forcibly exposed to your language.

But, as Pradine said, starting your OWN thread will get more meaningful feedback, since I'm not going to take over this thread with a lengthy discussion -- this will be my only response on the subject in this thread. :)

That's really just a perfect illustration of how seriously they take hate speech, now isn't it? Frankly, had you not used that one single word, there's a good chance you wouldn't have gotten a punishment at all. Assuming you're being honest in saying you hardly ever use chat. But if you frequently throw around things like 'kys' in chat, then yes you're going to eventually receive a punishment.

Riot has a zero tolerance for that and you can be happy it's not perma banned. The next thing which is kind of bad manner will get that account perma banned. Work on yourself.

Hate speech (which appears as multiple % symbols on these boards) and encouragements to self-harm (such as "kys") both earn escalations to an immediate 14-day ban due to the severity of the toxicity and the completely unnecessary nature of those comments. Riot has a zero tolerance policy on this sort of behavior.

With both present in the same log you might be lucky that it's only a 14-day ban, actually.

That's the sole reason it was escalated to a 14-day ban. Otherwise, you may have been looking at a 25-game chat restriction instead. Whichever word you used here is totally unacceptable (there are only a few 6-letter words censored by the Boards, none of which are good).

Perhaps you should take the 14 days to reflect on your behavior in-game and your attitude towards your teammates. Even without looking at the one line that probably escalated you, you still tell people you're playing with to kill themselves and that they're useless. This is also not considered acceptable behavior and if it continues, you'll easily fall into a permaban.

If you care about your account, you should take more care when using chat.

Well, yes. Such is the nature of moderators, they have access to tools that help keep the boards clean. With great power comes great responsibility, and I feel this is a responsible way to use the power. Typically when voting is disabled, comments are also disabled, and the thread is locked. Vote manipulation, although rarely a problem, does happen sometimes. Besides the fact your entire log -- as short as it may be -- is entirely made up of negativity and harassment;

You also are lucky to get away with a 2-week ban as a first offense instead of a permaban due to hate speech, which is normally permaban worthy (zero tolerance 'rule').

I'm surprised Riot hasn't decided to escalate it to a perma already, especially since you told someone to "kill themselves" as well as whatever the %%% hate speech word was.

There are plenty of undeserved bans and you post this shit? This isn't even close to being "debatable" as far as the rules go. It may be extreme, but it's not surprising. No one would consider that behavior acceptable regardless of circumstances (though many would just mute and not care). This isn't a matter of you calling a champion garbage or disagreeing with strategy and getting a suspension for it. The only question is what punishment you'll receive.
