The punishment system is after the wrong people.

So I got my chat restriction and it clearly shows me saying bad things:

"Garen you're a %%%" "Garen you're a piece of shit" blah blah blah etc etc etc.

But what it does not show is what happened immediately before that to show why I reacted like that. In case you were interested, I'm jungling and I go top lane to help our top laner Garen. We have and easy 2v1 on the enemy. It's an easy gank. The Garen walks up to the fight but does not attack. In fact, he starts spamming his emotes like laugh, taunt, and dance. He stands there emoting while I die in the 1v1, then Garen just walks away and continues to spam his laugh emote.

Now the really sad thing is, I cannot report Garen for that kind of trolling, because if I do, he'll just be pardoned since the chat log is clear and there is nothing to suggest he did anything wrong. Yet, if you have half a brain, you should agree that he is a fucking game-destroying troll who deserved to be called every name in the book for doing that.

This is the problem with the report system. You see a chat log. You see a kill/death/assist score. But so what? That doesn't tell the real information. Maybe I have a lot of deaths because I was feeding. Or maybe I have a lot of deaths because 3 teammates were afk farming and I was playing a 2v5 game. But I'm sure those 3 ass holes will report that I was intentionally feeding regardless.

The system is the perfect tool for trolls because it gives them a way hurt the people they are trying to troll even more. I remember way back before the Tribunal ever came out, the worst thing you could do to a teammate was feed intentionally, which wasn't that bad because it was possible to still play 4v5 and win. Now the worst thing you can do to a teammate is get their account banned, which is way worse than feeding one game right? So people have become professional trolls, trying their best to get under your skin so they can have some ammunition to use against your account.

The whole report system is dog shit. It caters to hypocrites who are more toxic than the people they are reporting.

You are judged for your actions and your actions alone. Let me repeat that. Your actions and your actions alone

"BUT HE STARTED IT" is a preschool excuse. Are you in preschool?

And what did u think insulting Garen would accomplish?

The system catches everyone that breaks the rules. Negative chat is just a lot easier to catch because the evidence is right there. Trolling can be disguised and thus takes longer to catch because they need a much larger sample size to determine if they are trolling. Of course it's easier to catch if they say "Hey I'm trolling lololololololol get rekt"

People who troll via gameplay are in fact punished. A recent example of such can be found here. They may not be as vocal about their punishments as those that are banned for verbal toxicity are but they are indeed punished. Regardless though you are judged for your actions and your actions alone. Someone else behaving poorly doesn't excuse your own poor behavior. You can defend yourself so long as it's done in a neutral or positive manner, but the moment that you start harassing them back is when it's no longer you defending yourself, it's just you being a jerk. From Understanding the Tribunal:

4) That player in my game was far worse than me. Why am I banned??? a) I'll keep this one simple: retaliation isn't OK. Reacting to a toxic player by being toxic just incites that player to be even worse--it also ruins the game for up to 8 other players. It is far, far worse to watch two people yelling at each other all game than it is to watch 1 player ranting into blank space. Almost everyone in the game can find someone out there that behaves worse than they do--but so what? Finding someone worse doesn't justify your behavior or justify retaliation. We expect more out of our players. What players often don't realize is... those other players in your game that you thought were worse? Nearly 100% of the time, those players were banned even before you were. If someone is being toxic, just report them and move on. If you retaliate, both of you will be banned. It's really that simple.

has been for ages one of the biggest problems with "those evil evil flamers" is usually more often then not people dont jsut magically get that kind of mad at you.

they are allowing the trolls to troll and punishing any player from condemning them in game the result is the state you see now

there is a reason leauge is so toxic compared to other games and it the same line of thought that causes mass murders to happen at schools movie theaters and clubs where guns arent allowed in the hands of abiding citizens

the moment flaming is allowed the game will blow up for a few months and the will reset its self and the reason that is what it will take is because they made to many stupid policies that make uninstall the only real way to release ones anger and hate for the game

the flaming really trully isnt the problem

the afk and the guy intentionally waiting for last hits on the other hand needs to be purged. it is the thing im seeing every where not just in gaming. why do any work when you can leech and snipe you know.

you shouldn't be flaming but you shouldn't be playing in such a way that you are going to make a person who is playing to win flame you either

Too much truth in our world is not good. just /mute all + don't talk at all... so no risk.

That's where you're wrong, punishments are not based solely on chat logs. You can (and should) report that kind of behavior. I personally use "unsportsmanlike + intentionally feeding", and explain in the text area that it's not exactly feeding but still intentionally helping the enemy team.

What you should NOT do is behaving badly yourself. No matter what others do, you're still responsible for what you do.
