Hi, I was recently suspended for 14 days due to rude and negative attitude/comments.

I definitely deserve a punishment as I was indeed extremely toxic with racial slurs and even using "kys". But there was no malicious intent behind these words, I was never angry or upset at people. To me it was all a joke, I was unaware of how I was affecting other people. This was the first ever punishment on my account of 5 years. I am not trying to get my punishment lifted with this. I'm very sorry for my actions.

I just wanted to voice that I feel skipping levels of punishment isn't a good way to escalate things in an attempt to help players change their behaviour. I believe players should always receive the in-game chat restriction first before any kind of suspension is given.

Could you please post your chat logs? That might help us understand and explain why you got an escalated ban.

I guess I might have explained myself poorly. I understand why it was escalated, as in the FAQ of the IFS it explains if the actions are severe it will be escalated. My actions were definitely severe. I was spouting things like; kys, nr, ft, etc. I'm just trying to provide feedback that I dislike that the escalation of skipping punishment exists. I feel the escalation path should always start with a chat restriction or other warning of some kind.

I know why it happened, I just don't think it should happen.

The escalated punishment is to show how severely bad it was.

It was a joke...... Nobody can read sarcasm, if you type it assume it is taken 100% as a literal comment

Telling someone to kys kinda skips the whole we need you to stop talking bit.....

Looking back on it now I see nobody understood I was joking and it was all taken literally. However with my mindset at the time I was typing things like "aylmao" and "gahteem". In my mind this conveyed that it was a joke, but as is obvious I was mistaken.

I don't understand your last comment. "telling someone to kys kinda skips the whole we need you to stop talking bit". But if I get muted, how would I tell people "kys"? Doesn't chat restriction immediately stop the behaviour that was harmful to others, and let me know that it isn't acceptable going forward?

chat restriction merely prevents you from spaming, you still get a few words every so often. But what you're asking for is riot to perma mute you... because you can't control yourself........

I didn't know it prevented spam. I thought that the 5 game and 25 game chat restrictions were mutes.

I've not asked for a perma mute at all. I've ask for a 5-25 game mute. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding.

While for you, you say there was no malicious intent and that it was in jest, for many people, it is not a joke when they say these sorts of things. They come into games, and actively spread significant amounts of racism, homophobia and other forms of hate speech. Having a strict policy is one way that Riot can protect the rest of the players from being forced to play with people like that. The millions of players who have no problems following the Code of Conduct shouldn't be forced to endure games with racist individuals spewing venom. And unfortunately, Riot, and the other people in your games, have no way of differentiating jokes from bigotry.

I feel being muted would adequately protect others/stop individuals spewing venom and demonstrate that the behaviour is not acceptable. If a player ignores that warning and continues, then I understand suspending them.

Other players muting the toxic individuals does not stop them from typing. It only stops the players from being able to read the toxic comments. The toxic players are actually free to type as much toxicity as they want, so it doesn't actually give them any consequence at all. All it does is inconvenience the other players by making them go out of their way to mute the toxic player.

Normal toxicity doesn't skip to the suspension. It's only for egregious levels of hate speech, or extreme toxicity. And in those cases, Riot deems that those players need more than a slap on the wrist to let them know that they need to stop that behavior immediately. For many of them, the threat of losing their account permanently is a pretty big wake up call.
