Off-meta banning: Reason for concern?

I have been scrolling the boards, and have been seeing some worrying posts (i.e. Diamond player getting banned for playing ADC , or support, etc.) Is WookieeCookie just saying, "Oh, would you look that, a off-meta player that actually has a winning strategy. Time for a ban!" Is there nothing we can do about this? Are we doomed to get banned from just playing off-meta champions? Perhaps. I'm honestly not sure how to feel about this, as yes, those builds can be annoying, but it IS a winning strategy that seems to work and even get people up to Diamond. But, of course, I want your opinions out of curiosity. We all most likely have different opinions.
