why is toxic chat punished more than toxic gameplay?

I've had my chat privileges suspended before, but this is the first time I've had an account ban (2 weeks) and I have a burning question: Why is toxic chat behavior punished more than intentional feeding? The Caitlin in my past game got I dunno, angry, because of some mild things that were said in chat during the early and mid game. And then went on to hardly ever group with the team, constantly split push and feed, and generally cost us the match. Everyone on my team agreed with this.

But I flamed her quite a bit throughout the match, as it became clearer and clearer that she was assisting the enemy team by intentionally feeding. Yet although I got banned i am quite sure that nothing happened to her. But in games like this that become a complete and utter hell to play, I can't leave the match and start a new game (and certainly not without punishment), I can't AFK without punishment, and if I rightfully flame the Caitlin for ruining the game for everyone, I get reported by everyone and their mother.

Why does Riot lock us into playing with troll-ish behavior that ruins the game and wastes everyone's time, and if we lash out because of that highly toxic environment and are toxic ourselves, why do we get banned and nothing is done to change the situation? How is Riot this fucking inept at community management?

1 It isn't that one is punished more harshly, but that one is easier to detect. 1 game of feeding detected is an instant 14 day ban.

2 Do you think your flaming helped the situation?

Don't blame others for your lack of control...

The short of it is because gameplay offenses are very difficult to prove they are intentionally malicious. If you say something offensive, it's right there in the chat and can't be contested. If you hit your team with a Bard Ult it might be impossible to tell if you were trolling even if it's manually reviewed by a panel of judges, much less by an automated system.

No, the system isn't as good as it will get, but Riot continues to improve on it. Just don't forget to report so the system can find a pattern of this kind of behavior and get better at doing it.

I can't leave the match... if I rightfully flame the Caitlin

You can't do either of those things because they are wrong regardless of the situation or who you are doing it to. Two wrongs don't make a right, you're just both wrong now. You also have to consider the other players; now they have to deal with a toxic troll and another toxic or afk player. Just mute the toxic people and continue playing the match the best you can.

Thank you everyone for the comments. It really helped me to better grapple with my 2-week ban and better understand the League community, reports, bans, etc.

But it's all a bunch of fucking horseshit: I was just permanently banned for being not very toxic in a game with someone who was being extremely toxic by assisting the enemy team and harassing players. And for standing up to that piece of crap and hopefully getting others to report him, I got reported (I guess by multiple people?) and permabanned. This reporting system is completely fucking broken. People are stuck in elo hell matches that drag on where teams won't surrender and if you AFK you're reported, and when you express your rage at the completely dysfunctional systems in this game that Riot still has not addressed after years of being at the top of the gaming heap, you get punished.

Fuck you Rito. So hard.

Very clearly by the rules you can't AFK without punishment! No need to really bring that one up ;)

GrizzlyKodiak ,

If you really ! REALLY don't know why you got punished put up your logs for your 14 day ban K? Try Not to blame others for what you got punished about..kay? ;)

I agree with most of what you said. The passive-aggressive troll style is hella abundant. The shittier part is it doesn't matter if you address these people nicely or rudely for a play call (IE if you address them in anyway other than GJ or ping) they flip out and treat you like a lepper. They'll go farm or avoid helping you whenever possible. If you or anyone says anything to them about their decisions, they'll make you the asshole and continue to play in passive, spiteful manner. They might even banter back about how "you aren't their fault".

Overall, players playing selfishly (trolling or not) is KILLING the good feels this season

because toxic chat can be easily detected while toxic gameplay is very difficult to detect
