If you start putting toxic garbage into chat, you cease being a victim and start being a bully yourself.
Liberal logic does NOT punish the victim... In my experience it makes the victim seem like they have done nothing wrong and they usually punish the perp.

If you "defend yourself" (aka, retaliate) you are ALSO at fault. Bullying a bully still makes you a bully.
If someone talks shit first, doesn't justify you talking back. There is no reason to flame them back if you can mute them and focus on playing. What will talking back do? It won't help your case, It will just put you in a bigger risk of getting banned.
