sometimes feeding is the only choice

got stuck in a game tonight where some kid ragequits at 6 mins. no more top laner. we continue to fight but there is just no way to do it. our jg has to cover top and with no jungle pressure they build a huge lead not to mention the extra player. we are reduced to huddling under turrets and waveclearing. im counting the seconds and when 20 minutes finally arrives i immediately hit the surrender. but the vote fails 2 to 2.

what choice to i have? if i start complaining to my teammates and tell them i want to quit this hopeless game and go to sleep, i can be banned for a toxic attitude. if i continue to fight, this game might steal another 20 minutes of my life. i need to get out. the only thing i can do is help convince my team its time to give up. feeding is the only choice.

incidentally my team still didnt surrender after i fed a few kills. but it did help the game to end sooner, so i did what i could. i dont feel bad at all.

You might feel bad when you get banned for intentional feeding. You don't get chat restrictions for that, you skip right to a 14 day or permanent ban. Regardless of how bad the match looks, one won teamfight or someone splitpushing properly or just evening the odds by stalling can turn it into a victory.

Well you posting on the forums how you intentionally fed certainly isn't going to help your case.

hmm i feel like you are missing the point of my story.

also i think you might be overrating how aggressive riots discipline team is. you imagine they will see this post and say "aha! someone intentionally fed!" and then go back through and watch all my games too see which one it was and if what i did actually deserves punishment?

i would be very surprised.

There. It must have escaped your mind, but that right there? That's a choice. You made the choice to feed instead of fighting because you felt it's justified. Feeding was not the only choice. It was merely your choice, made out of selfishness. I rarely write this: But I definitely hope you get smited by a red... or simply detected by Riot's feeder buster (which is specifically designed to distinguish intentional feeding from being "very brave", btw).

there is no possible way it could tell the difference. i ran in and used my skills. how would it know it was different from any other fight?

maybe wanting to leave a lost 4v5 is selfish. but holding 2 of your teammates hostage in a 4v5 lost video game that they want out of is just as selfish or more.

When you choose to play a team game, you'll have to accept that you cannot always have your way. And if people disagree, there's a vote. Maybe you feel like you've been taken "hostage", but the entire reason why there is a vote is to avoid behaviour like yours. That's why their choice was not as selfish, because they simply voted and won the vote. In fact, if you would have won, they would not even have had a choice as selfish as yours, since their game would have ended either way. The most selfish thing they did was to vote for surrender. But the most selfish thing you did was not to vote against it; the most selfish thing you did was attempting to enforce the outcome of the vote that you wanted.

I don't know how you played (or how the system exactly works), or I could give you a more specific idea as to what could be picked up by their system. Generally, their system looks for patterns in "playstyle". Globally as well as your own. That said, even if I did know exactly how the system would detect that you were feeding, I still wouldn't tell you, since it would be rather counterproductive if you knew how to dodge it.

i am 100% sure there is no program that will detect someone intentionally taking fights they know they will lose. unless they have the technology to read the players mind.

if they repeatedly go 0-25 then sure. but i occasionally feed like 4 or 5 kills in games i want surrendered. and i go down fighting. there is no way.

Seen somebody complain about being banned for feeding, in a game where he had almost positive stats... He even uploaded the replay, so I watched it and just about at the end, presumably when he thought the game was over anyway and he felt a bit frustrated, he fed one kill. A single death. Now, admittedly it was fairly obvious to somebody that watches a replay carefully enough, but I will admit I would not have though the system would pick up something as subtle as that.

But hey, it's your account that's on the line. Do what you will.

that would be hilarious though. all those people who run into the laser at the nexus at the end of the game. banned! banned! banned! banned! haha

Again, it's about patterns. The particular pattern of running into the laser around an open (and almost destroyed) nexus is not considered intentional feeding by most, in that it is not a form of griefing or sabotaging your team.

That's like your opinion dude. My opinion is that when that happens, try to remember that winning isn't the only way of enjoying a game.

thats true but also remember when your teammates want to leave, it is very mean to hold them in the game against their will.

win or lose its just a video game. why not let them leave if they want by surrendering? you can be in a different game that is just as much fun or more in about 3 mins AND you did a good thing for some people who were not having a good time.

refusing a surrender vote is a jerk move.

I understand your point of view, but i disagree with it a bit. Similar to all other cases of quitting the game early for whatever reason, don't start a game you don't plan on finishing.

5 players on one side, 5 players on the other. Within the first team, 1 leaves, 2 want to quit and 2 to keep playing. Who is right and who is wrong? There is no majority to force an answer, so one of the 2 that want to quit decides to throw the game. That's one team, but what about the other? Aren't those 5 players also part of the game? Do they have a say in the matter? Should they? They now have a win, a meaningless one, but a win nonetheless. But did they enjoy the game? Unfortunately, i can't answer that.

There's no right, no wrong, just opinions. And my opinion is that by throwing the game, that one player did more damage than the one that left. You can still enjoy a game of 4v5 if you really want to. I know i enjoyed a game of 2v5. We lost completely, but i we did our best that we could do at the time and that means something. That game remains memorable because we didn't give up and i assure you that feeling is much better than the one felt giving up.

Life is full of things you won't enjoy, but you still need to do them. Will you give them up as well? Will you be able to? Make the best of what you get. It's not the only choice, but i believe it's a better one than simply giving up completely.

the choice to surrender or keep playing are not equal. the outcomes are vastly different.

if they decide to surrender nothing real is lost. they get an L on their win/loss record, which in a 4v5 was almost definitely going to happen anyway.

but if they decide to make their team play on, they are trapping 2 teammates against their will for 20 minutes of torture.

it is definitely possible to enjoy a game even while losing. but once you in the mindset that you want out, it is no longer possible. now you just want to leave and your team is not letting you. it is a very bad feeling.

so the vote is 2 to 2, but the possible outcomes are - 2 players have to lose sooner than they wanted, or 2 players are held and tortured with no escape for the duration of the game.

please just let them go.
