Should Permabans Exist?

Just to get this out of the way: I have never been permabanned from an account, I've never received any kind of disciplinary action from Riot, and I'm not saying that toxic behavior shouldn't be punished because I am the first person to be mad out of my mind (just silently or politely) when someone starts in on something hateful and stupid. This is merely something I want to talk about out of curiosity.

I think a permaban is kind of harsh even if you're the absolute worst. I know it's a free game but a lot of people do spend money on it thinking that they'll be able to keep their purchase until the end of time. I just think its messed up to take that away from somebody even if they are awful. And i'm not really defending people who really deserve all the punishments they go but I know sometimes do receive a punishment for things they didn't deserve like afk reports for a bad internet connection or inting reports for some really unfortunate gameplay with unforgiving teammates. And maybe sometimes that's the tipping point into a permabanned account. Even if they were toxic in the past they shouldn't get a permaban 6 months down the line because their power went out during a storm.

I know there's an appeal system but don't they very very rarely work out? I just think their should be an alternate system in place instead of just taking the game away from them completely. Maybe once they reach a certain amount of reports move them to another server full of "toxic" players so they all have to deal with each other like some other games do it. Maybe before they get to that point wipe their slate clean every season or after a long period of nothing but good behavior but if they still get to where a permaban would be triggered keep them on the toxic server for the rest of their time in the game

Just a thought

I have yet to see someone perma-banned because they afk'ed or dc'ed unintentionally. Furthermore, Leavebuster and the behavioral punishment system operate on separate punishment ladders.

You don't get hit harder by the leavebuster because you behaved poorly in the past.

I've never seen someone permanently banned for leaving, afking, or losing connections out of my 10 years. I've seen many reasons and different penalties for all sorts. But never for one of those reasons. The permaban is a good penalty for the worst. Because no one wants to see those kinds of players in our game and Riot recognize that. That's why that penalty exists.

It's not a video game companies place to comment on my personal behavior. They are there to make video game.

There are already systems in place to prevent what you are talking about.

First off, yes you can appeal for a punishment to be revoked. The reason it is so rare for it to work out is because they only reverse punishments applied in error, which are very rare.

When you are punished you can work them off your account by playing consistantly without being toxic.

Leaverbuster and IFS are seperate so you cant be banned for a combination of behaviors from the two.

It is very rare to see someone punished for gameplay related reasons incorrectly and those can be overturned as well.

I am not aaying that I like that it has to be this way, I wish people could just not be toxic towards eachother and not be offended by eachother, but most people are not like that.

While i would personally prefer a non permanent solution such as a banned queue, until that happens im perfectly fine with it.

Without a permanent ban, people will be encouraged to create multiple toxic accounts and rotate through the punishments and never have to face any real consequence.
