Summer 2016 - Fantasy LCS Week 4 Discussion

Note: Hey there! Usually Nural would post this thread but it appears he's been busy recently, and since we're only 90 minutes away from the first EU LCS matchup I decided to start things off. I'm not trying to steal his thunder, certainly I've really enjoyed all the content Nural has posted so far this split, but I know a lot of people (myself included) wanted to discuss a few things before the EU picks lock in for Week 4. This happens to be my first post on the LoL Forums (usually I reside as a Community Writer on the EA Sports FIFA Forums), as well as my first Fantasy LCS split. Given my limited Fantasy LCS experience, my responses will likely be more discussion based rather than solid advice, so take my opinion with a pinch of salt. Hope you don't mind Nural!

Copied from Nural's thread.

The purpose of this forum is exactly what the title describes: to help people set up their best line up possible heading into the next week of games. We've all experienced a moment where we are choosing between two players, not sure which one will have the better turn-out with regards to their current match-ups, their record, if their on a losing streak, new subs of the team, etc. This can now become a place where the fantasy community can help each other out with their rosters so that they are receiving their full potential each and every week. This can also be a place to discuss possible Add/Drop possibilities. Anyway, everyone can understand the purpose behind this forum now.

Just simply post a question about who you are deciding between, along with your reasoning's behind why you should and shouldn't start them. Then hopefully a fellow fantasy community member will be able to respond and help you make your decision. Anyone can help out! Multiple opinions and beliefs are better than just one! Remember, Strength in numbers.

Disclaimer: Human beings cannot foresee the future, everything posted on here are just calculated predictions/opinions.

Hopefully this now provides a means for all of us as a community to help each other in achieving the glorious 1st place spot in your respected leagues, along with the entitled sensation of "Bragging Rights." Best of luck to all of you! #FantasyLCS #DecisionsAreHard

Sleepers Week 4

  1. CLG

Nural put CLG down as a team to watch in Week 3, and while they kinda dropped the ball against NV, they played out two very clean games against FOX in which they all showed signs of improvement. A lot of people are railing on Huhi specifically as the weak point of this current CLG roster, but there's no doubting that they still have one of the best (if not the best) supports in NA as well as experienced players in Darshan and Xmithie. I'd also like to point out that, unlike many other teams, CLG still have a clear identity of what their strategy is: 4-1 | 1-3-1 split push...compared to other teams across NA and EU who are yet to find that consistent win condition.

As for their matchups this week, they face bottom of the barrel P1 as well as IMT. Based on the split so far, IMT looks like an unfavourable matchup, and while I do expect IMT to pull out a series win, that doesn't mean there isn't potential for CLG's players to score some points. For one, IMT are often involved in high kill games (the most recent example being their 2-0 scrap with NV last week), and I don't see why it will be any different this week with both CLG and IMT prone to making errors. At the end of the day you aren't punished significantly for deaths, but you are heavily rewarded for high kill/assist games. My personal recommendation would be to pick up Darshan or Aphromoo if they are available - carry top laners are back in the meta so I expect Darshan to pick up Trundle into Huni's Irelia at some point.

  1. APX

You may not think of them as sleepers anymore after they pushed C9 to the limit last week with some fairly unique picks in the J4 and Cass, but they're still only 3-3 in the summer split with a lot of potential to challenge for the playoffs. They have favourable matchups this week against hapless FOX as well as a TL squad that looks a shadow of the team that was one double TP play away from the spring finals. As I mentioned in the CLG post, high kill games = high fantasy points, and APX have shown that they're not afraid to play aggressively. Personally I've always liked Keane, and even though he tends to get the most resources in the team, both Ray and Apollo are also viable options.

Teams to Watch

  1. H2K

It's pretty well documented that H2K excel at macro play and often out-rotate teams to victory rather than brute force their way to the nexus. However, their strong showing vs FNC in Week 2 as well as a near perfect Game 1 vs G2 in Week 3 gives me reason to believe that they can score highly on a consistent basis against anyone in the region. I imagine Odoamne is taken in most leagues (he was a second round draft for me) along with Jankos and Ryu, but Freeze is definitely coming into his own now that he seems to have settled in. That Draaaaven game vs FNC was disgusting. Moreover, their next four fixtures are against SPY, UoL, OG and ROC, all of which are mid to bottom tier teams at the moment.

  1. S04

Results wise, the formerly named Elements have been inconsistent, but their performances have given me plenty to get excited about. I actually picked up MrRalleZ in Week 2 and he whacked out the Miss Fortune vs OG to great effect; in the midlane Fox is looking a much improved player from last split, and he's actually the sixth highest kill player across NA and EU so far. I decided against listing them as a sleeper this week due to their tough matchup against G2, but if you do want to look for a low-econ, highly available flex option then look no further than Fox. As far as I can tell, S04 tend to put a priority on getting Fox a strong teamfight champion like Azir or Viktor, so there'll always be the potential for him to completely go off.

That's about all for now. I had a large post ready to go with some questions for Nural but maybe some of you can help me out with those in the following discussion. Again, hopefully you don't mind Nural, but I really wanted to sink my teeth into some Fantasy LCS talk before the EU picks lock in.

GL all!

Tonight is Ohq's last chance for me, if he can't score against the worst team in the west then I'll have to drop him. Nothing but disappointment so far, he even apologised a few days ago for his performances.
