About assist points

Anyone else think assists give way too much? I mean I get that it's important to get assists and contribute more to the team and everything, but it's nearly as much as a kill. It takes 3 deaths to equal one assist. Seems like a ton of players are getting large amounts of points based off long games and racking up a ton of assists. Any thoughts?
