People make fun of the lore-nerds but League actually had some of the most original, well-written and interesting lore of any game around. It started slipping a long time ago, a champion bio hasn't interested me in a long time and then you've got stuff like Trundle's retcon making him infinitely more dull and boring than his original rotting-corpse-as-a-sacrifice-for-his-whole-clan self. The last entry about Swain becoming Grand General was cool as hell and I still absolutely love all the Jarvan/LeBlanc speculation.

I'm not quite sure why JoJ stopped in the first place.

Who remembers the Ionia Vs. Noxus Match? Let's get some more of that going!

Short lore animatics would be amazing

I agree that lore is important, and I personally love it when we pull off lore well. However, I stopped reading the JoJ after just a few issues. It was just too much text with too little actual game impact. In the end of the day, the primary way in which 95% of our playerbase interacts with whatever we end up creating for Runeterra is by playing the game. That's why I think lore that ties directly into the game is so much cooler. The Freljord event and the three queens minigame (full disclosure: Meddler and I implemented the minigame, so I may be biased here) is much cooler. Or things like Lucian's login screen, Yasuo's pre-release story reveal, Jinx vandalizing Vi's champion page and so on.

I understand you lore fiends want bigger chunks of text and fiction to sink your teeth into, but I think we can do deep, complex lore without requiring people to read something which then has little to no game impact. We're always exploring new ways to do this kind of thing, so stay tuned.

Saw this thread and just had to comment on it. It's actually something that I've been wondering for a bit... I've only been playing this game since late season three, and all I ever knew was the PvP in it with slight backstories to the characters and the JoJ which disappeared before I could finish reading it. However, I recently stumbled upon a few threads of the past while looking into things like the shopkeeper in ARAM and I'm astonished to see just how much lore and work was put into the game. The evolution vs the resistance seemed so fun and skins even had much more meaning-- once I learned that and saw how involved the community used to be I was completely taken aback. I thought this game was basically pvp and story was a sideshow. But as I read more about rivals and character interactions... I just got sad. I feel like I missed out on something truly amazing; like it all just disappeared. I really hope I get the opportunity to see progress in the story behind the League of Legends and get to choose a side like i did with the Frejlord event. I noticed some champion lore doesn't even mention why the champion even joined the league(ie: Jinx)so I hope it isn't really fading away. If it is, I'm seriously disappointed in myself for not giving this game a chance sooner.I know you guys are really busy and have alot to handle, but with the deletion of the JoJ I'm just wondering... is the lore from LoL really fading away? Or do you have your own plans to bring it back? Is there going to be an attempt to bring it back in a way newer players can understand? I think alot of people would be lured to your game if they knew the story behind it, and I think that the reason alot of older players left is because the lore did. Though this comment will probably go unnoticed, I thought it'd be worth a shot to try to get a response.

Honestly, the LoL matches are supposed to be about a certain event happening in Valoran that was resolved with the match, i would like to see more of that D:

Part of why I started playing League was for the lore, and I especially love reading those things about a champion's entry into the League of Legends.

This probably seems overly hopeful (as it is) but maybe Rito is planning some huge lore release at some point. For example, a large amount of info they built up with each champion's interview (if they had one), consistent maps, connecting back stories and bios, etc. Maybe they just needed to get their stuff together, but I highly highly highly... (a few hundred more highlys later) highly doubt it. I just wish they would.

I love all the lore stuff in league. I've read every champions lore and wish i could find a little bit more about certain champs or at least a little more detail about Runeterra. Would love to know more about the shadow isles or the howling abyss!

The thing that hooked me up to League, is the story(lore) behind each champion and their interaction. It'd be awesome if we could have something more like the Freljord event. Riot should start revealing the world of Runeterra. .

How about the interaction between these three Leona- Pantheon - Diana ? Riot "left" their conflict and just carried on with other stuff.

I love the lore of league and the journals, I want to know more about demacia and noxus, zuan and piltover (sorry for grammer). Hec what about Viktor battlecast army? There's got to be stuff going on in runeterra.

StrongWinWebb5/7/2014, 2:13:01 AM2 votes

Yeah what the eff Riot, wheres my damn lore. WHAT IS MCSWAIN DOING IN NOXUS, ALL RULING AND STUFF!

Brokeback Varus5/9/2014, 4:12:24 AM2 votes

As of now this thread has 496 yes to 19 no votes. That is a ridiculous majority, Zenon that I don't think you can ignore. If you don't bring back the JoJ in it's previous form maybe you can do small weekly snippets of lore or monthly ones. You may think you know what we want in this case but frankly you don't or Riot chooses to ignore the majority.

Jayce -"Viktor I will stop you"

Viktor -"No you won't because Riot does care what happens between us"

I'm sorry, seeing this, I had to jump in. I love the lore to, and I loved JoJ. I mean, it gave us tidbits we NEVER see in game, the lives of champs when they're not on the Rift, what they do in their spare time, etc. etc.

I also loved the Freljord event, but I feel like it was so temporary. When it came out, I thought "so, these 3 are going to be stuck fighting forever?"

I've been playing this game since early Season 2 and I've read every single champion bio and those who had their own Judgements. Nowadays, I feel like we've been severely lacking in the lore department. Look at the bios of the champs since pre-season 3. We, the Summoners, the ones who are also part of the world, have been dropped. There's no more mention of the League of Legends, no more mention of the Institute of War, and no mention of us. The reworked champs (Sejuani is the first to come to mind) had their lines rewritten not to mention the Summoners. So...the champs don't interact with us anymore? I loved that the players were made part of the lore, that made the game all the more immersive.

Another thing I'd like to point out is that a lot of the champs are not given a reason to join the League. It had always intrigued me as to why a champ would land himself in the League. Why is Syndra in the League? Did the Summoners capture her and coerce her to participate to prevent her from screwing up Ionia? Why is Jinx in the League? Did they catch her too or did she join because she felt like it?

I would like to see what's going on in Runeterra. How is Swain ruling Noxus? Is Demacia going to kick their asses soon? Does Morgana still have her bakery? Will any of the Three Sisters win and finally rule Freljord? Will Diana and Leona work out their differences? I want to see charcter development and not just stop with champs interacting with one another? Because seriously, are they going to keep doing that forever?

Come on, Riot, you gave us the Ionia vs. Noxus match. You've proven that you can write and give us the most interesting lore so why, why, why are you stifling yourselves? What's wrong with reading news about Runeterra? What's wrong with doing what you're doing now but giving us something to read on the side? We are still part of this world that you've created, right? Unless you've retconned us, the Summoners, out of Runeterra. Doesn't it make sense that we Summoners get daily updates on the goings-on in the city states? What is happening to Runeterra right now? It's been a stand-still for 2 years except for the events that have not been resolved.

I believe you can still wow us with excellent lore, Riot. Let us in the lives of the Champions again, let us live in Runeterra again.

I have to corrrect (intentional mispelling) the person who wrote that the writers for the lore behind the characters and fantasy world were well written. I could have pointed out errors in grammar and spelling in those excerpts, but the story remained very interesting.
