Discussion on Pentakill Morde and Sona "Updates"

Can we please have some form of commentary on what is going on with the "updates" to Pentakill Sona and Morde?

The skins look far, far less detailed, and in the case of Morde, far less "Metal" than the originals. Morde's color was changed from Black to Purple, the details on all the spikes, his Axe, his boots etc, were all removed. Same goes with Sona, though her model is now the appropriate size, it has lost all of it's details and looks far worse than before.

I am at a loss to understand what the desired goal is here, and have yet to see a single person happy about the change to Morde, and most are really upset with Sona as well. What was the goal here? What was Riot attempting to accomplish, which obviously they fell short at?
