Top Ten Reasons Why You Should Play Galio
This is a new series I am starting to get discussions started on different champions. Essentially, we've seen the used champion pool declime dramatically over the past couple seasons. We went from about 75%+ of champions used in the LCS to now less than 50%. It's time that we started seeing the usefulness of other champions.
Here are the top ten reasons why Galio is viable (in no particular order)
- His Bulwark gives the highest magic resist buff in the game to a teammate. This renders anyone nearly unkillable.
- While his ult was nerfed into the dirt, it is still incredibly disruptive and does a large amount of base damage.
- All of his damage has very large AOE. He is one of the most reliable on getting damage on very many targets with consistent damage.
- Galio provides great utility in general as a support. He is disruptive, has high base damage, good chase potential with talisman and gust, and of course the mentioned Bulwark.
- Because Galio has both long range and unblockable AOE, he is one of the best in the business at siege offense and defense.
- Because of high base damage, Galio is relatively cheap to build, so attempts to zone by the enemy will only go for so long. Galio will always get his farm. It's what he does.
- Because of his multiple roles and his versitility, he can play multiple roles. This prevents the enemy from counter picking him so easily.
- Because of his unique role, opponents of a Galio typically don't have a natural sense of how to deal with him, particulary with his Bulwark. People are simply going to underestimate how powerful that spell is, especially when he casts it on himself! (extra AP from MR, healing, and damage reduction combined).
- Galio has a monster late game. Build health, magic pen, and MR and you can wait to build your deathcap until the end. When that deathcap is done, all of those bad AP ratios go right out the window. You are essentially a megatank with the burst of a fizz if you ever get to 6 items, especially if you picked Galio correctly against a 2 or 3 mage comp.
- Because he is good at many things -- AOE, tankiness, and 3 low cooldowns on his non-ulti skills, you can build him many different ways, which allows you to itemize a lot more than most champs.
ult and turret tanking would heal me, for a lot at that. and with your q and e on 2 sec cooldowns and no mana cost, escaping kiting and cs-ing is crazy easy. also, literally permanent w. im gonna miss urf so much T_T
