Atma's Impaler

I'm curious, why does Atma's item 3005 still exist as is? I really don't think anyone ever builds it, except maybe GP as a 6th item, since tankiness and crit chance almost never coincide. It just feels like a huge waste of money. I understand that AD + Tankiness items are generally bad for the game (league of fighters) but would it really be that unbalanced with something else instead of the crit chance? I feel like a hexdrinker kind of thing for physical damage wouldn't be that terrible. Just some early defensive stats when you're getting destroyed by an AD champs, but you still want some damage (Riven, Yi, Yasuo, etc)(Basically people who would build hexdrinker item 3155 in the AP case). Maybe with a cost ineffective upgrade (a la Maw of Malmortiousitem 3156 + Mercurial Scimitaritem 3139 )

Actually, Atma's is my main weapon on all my bruisers, and as you mentioned, tankplank. I always buy item 3093 early for gold if I know I'm going to upgrade it into item 3005 or item 3142 (item 3087 sucks, never buy it over item 3078 or item 3046). The main reason I choose Atma's over something like Sunfire is that it's more controllable. I don't have to worry about accidentally proc'ing turret aggro just by standing next to an enemy champion. Plus it scales well on bruisers, and has a lot of utility to it (armor, crit chance, and damage that scales with health. Specifically get it for the latter.) Need some champion ideas for Atma's? Here's some of the ones I build it on. Gangplank Garen Jax Jayce LeeSin Nautilus Rammus Trundle Tryndamere Udyr Vi. I'm sure there's more, but these are the champions that I currently own
