Kassadin R while CCed (gameplay)

While being crushed by a kassadin, I noticed that he was able to use R while being pulled by blitzcrank, as well as being able to R away while taunted by rammus. Is this accurate? Does this ability has some hidden CC breaker that Im not familiar with, or is this a bug?
