Illaoi W, interrupted by other champions movement/move skills?

Is the hit detection on W working as intended. I was just playing against a Riven and she would dash away from me leaving me with W activated and trying to auto her over and over again. The end result was me stutter stepping towards with the pot above my head her for most of my ult's duration. Should the animation break half way through if the target moves out of range?
