Vel'koz's W is coded as a minion or monster?

Well playing Vel'koz I noticed that towers and jungle monsters would take time to target Vel'koz's W prior to it fading away. Was wondering if this was intentional or a small bug? or maybe I'm just crazy and seeing things.
