[GAMEPLAY] Relic shield item 3302 execute not working o Thresh Thresh

Yesterday I tried to play Thresh and was using the Relic Shield item. I noticed I had trouble getting the execute effect and giving gold to me and my laner. It seemed as though the excecute part did not proc at all, and the "give gold" effect only came when I actually last hitted a minion with my own auto attack, and not the execute. After this game I played another, now as ADC with a Thresh support who said he experienced the same thing. It was obvious he had a lot of trouble getting it to proc.

This effect remained on all upgrades of the item.

To reproduce:

  • Try to execute minions on Thresh with the Relic Shield effect.

Thresh is ranged. Ranged attacks cannot proc the execute function, as mentioned in the tooltip (you can still last hit to share the gold and heal).

Question, is Thresh melee?
