Kayn Early Game Passive

In more than one game I've played as Kayn, sometimes damaging champions will not collect essence for his passive, in a game I played yesterday, the meter was full, but every time I damaged a ranged champion, it would just collect the essence and not let me transform. I finally damaged a melee champion and the passive finally worked, but I had to choose darkin because it was too late in the game to wait for the assassin form to come up Kayn Riot pls fix me

That's weird, did they have shields? And do you have any of these puppies to stack faster cause you reached late?summoner 14 item 3715 item 3706 item 2033 item 3751 item 3151 Deathfire touch, etc.

I've had this problem too, even a year later, where I'd get max essence at lvl 5 but I still couldnt transform.
