Riot's Word Filter wont let me use "Jurassic" as part of my team name.

Hey Everybody, This is my first time posting to the boards since I started playing league (3 years now) and I was hoping this could get seen my somebody who works at riot so they could investigate. The word filter for Ranked Team names wont let me use "Jurassic" as part of my team name because it contains the word "ass-"

I realize this isn't game-breaking, and yes I will most likely move onto a different name if this receives no attention but I had so wanted to call my team "Jurassic 5" as a homage to the band and because it fits so perfectly for 5 long time players banding together to play ranked 5's.

(Sorry for the late reply, was talking to Competitive about this issue.)

Unfortunately, the naming system works by pattern matching off a blacklisted block of words, and 'ass' in included in this one, which is why it's not allowing you to use 'Jurassic' in your ranked team name. The only way to get around this based on how the system currently works is to remove 'ass' from the blacklist, which is something we wouldn't necessarily want to do. That said, the team's aware of this issue and they're discussing it.

Just a suggestion to pass along to the team, if a word appears as part of a skin name, could that entire word be added to a white list? It would allow "Jurassic" to work, seeing as there is a Jurassic skin line.

I'm not sure if we have a whitelist for this particular system, but it's definitely a good idea for odd cases like this one.

Taipei --Ass--assins now banned for bypassing word filter. Akali Ekko Evelynn Fizz Katarina Khazix Leblanc MasterYi Nidalee Nocturne Rengar Shaco Talon Zed now removed from the game for having a toxic primary role. (Kassadin double banned, for reasons...let's go with "mobility"). Mods also banned for bypassing the word filter. The directors of the Boards hired to continue the moderating after the other people had been sacked, wish it to be known that they have just been sacked. The boards have been completed in an entirely different style at great expense and at the last minute.

But seriously, 'ass' is just too common of a syllable.

Maple Story had that problem with their word filter and it kicked out like every 5th sentence you typed when you were just having a normal, no cursing conversation. Just got silly and frustrating and probably had a lot to do with why I quit playing it. Though their word filter was always active. Chat, naming characters, naming guilds, everything.

But still, gotta drop parts of the word filter or you're going to end up with a lot of frustrated players that aren't even trying to do anything wrong.

Nah, in this case, I think the filter is fine.

I'd rather never have "Team Jurassic" in exchange for never having grossly rude team names.

Still gonna end up with grossly rude team names, trolls will find a way around any filter if they really want to. And it's not just 'jurassic' that's the problem.

Short list of words that will be unusable that will probably be highly likely to want to be used- glass (cannons?) hourglass, class, outclass, passive, assassin, assailant, grass(for a garen main, huehue), harass..

See how this gets to be a problem pretty quick?

Happens with other words too, especially short words. You end up fighting the word filter and 'name already taken' over and over till you just give up and name your team something like LlILlIliiIIlLk42 just to avoid having to try to think of more names and avoid getting filtered again.

Thanks for replying, I sent a ticket in and was sorted out. They managed to get the name for me!

Why even have a word filter for names ?

Clearly establish what is allowed and not allowed for naming and punish those who break the rules. The innocent need not suffer for the crimes of the few.

Just make it so that if it's in between letters, or have letters after it (without spaces), it will allow it.

This is as bad as the Pokemon name filter. Wouldn't let me name my majestic sun moth Apollonius because it apparently contains a curse word in a language I don't even know.
