Azir ult prevented by Gangplank timing his oranges

If Gangplank uses his oranges just as Azir ults it stops it from knocking him back. My understanding is that gangplanks oranges only remove debuffs not prevent them from ever applying as it is not a spell shield.

Is this working as intended or is it in fact a bug.

It removes disables, which displacement is part of. He can also use the fruit smoothie while disabled (including stunned) to instantly remove it, so it's possible Azir's ult hit him, began to move him, and then he smoothied to remove it. If you're quick I believe you can even fruit smoothie your way out of a blitz grab. But I haven't done it.
