Client Crashes After Logging In (Mac)

SuddenlySwole·2/3/2016, 7:07:13 AM·11 votes·13,000 views

Whenever I log in with my username and password, I get shown the main screen for a split second, then the client instantly crashes and I get a message saying that the LolClient quit unexpectedly. I recently upgraded to the El Capitan OS X and I've been having the same black screen issue for macs as well yesterday. Here's a bit of what the error report showed up when the client crashed.

Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x... Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

I've tried reinstalled the client too, same result.

I'm experiencing exactly the same issue. I started having problem this Sunday on my Macbook with Yosemite. I even updated to El Capitan OS X, because I thought it might be related to this, but nothing changed.

I recommend emailing riot. I had a problem on my mac where i could join lobby and select champ, but as soon as loading screen came on my client would always freeze. Along with making my whole mac freeze and i would have to force shut down. It will take about a few days of riot collecting necessary info from you. Then they will send you steps to fix the problem. The fix is actually probably easy to handle once they tell you the solution.

I have a mac running OS X 10.11.3 and have had this same issue as well. This issue was happening to me on and off. Usually this could be fixed by restarting my macbook air, however even that does not seem to work anymore. I have tried multiple reinstalls and repairs to no avail. It seems that multiple have been experiencing similar issues for the past 2+ weeks. Would really appreciate some feedback from the riot engineers or support staff, as the game is pretty much unplayable for myself and others at this point.

Has anyone worked out a fix for this. I am about 5 emails in with RIOT and am getting nowhere!

After asking Player support, Riot Rubik sends me these 5 steps.

  1. Run a Software Update - You can find out how to run Software Update in this article

  2. Switch to a Public DNS

I have particular confidence that this will work. Make sure you do a complete reboot after you set the DNS. To make sure that your DNS is set correctly run a System Report and do a search in the document for DNS, if it's anything other than what the guide above suggests (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) then it wasn't applied correctly.

  1. Enable Cookies in Safari - Open Safari if it is not already open. Choose Safari > Preferences, and then click Privacy. In the "Block cookies" section, please set it to "Never"

  2. Ensure League of Legends has Administrator Privileges

  3. You seem to be running at least one proxy, this can cause a number of different issues so I would highly advise not using one while playing League. Here's some basic info about proxies and how to disable them: http://www.speedguide.net/faq/how-do-i-disable-the-web-proxy-server-5

I'm having the exact same issue. I was in contact with riot support and they said its probably 'a rare bug we see with the client trying to pull up corrupted font assets from OS X'. And they said i should perform a clean OS X install and reinstall league of legends on the new OS. I did this however and still the client crashes.. Did you guys get any progress? I'll keep you updated if i get any more suggestions from riot.

This exactly what's happening to me. Everything is updated on my Mac and it's still happening. No idea why.

I even went as far as to move house and get new internet and still no fix, riot plz fix yo shit

Yep, this has been happening to me since January. I've dealt with Riot support already. They asked me to run a load of diagnostics which I did, and the end result was that it was my ISP's fault. I had already been using the public DNS servers, so that isn't the issue.

The only fix I have for this at the moment is to keep trying to login. Usually after about 10 attempts, it stays logged in.

Guys, in Safari go to "Safari>Preferences>Privacy>Remove All Website Data". This will clear the cookie cache. Do this everytime the "Crash after login" happens.

Yup, I've had the same problem for several months now and at least 3 patches ago if not more. Clearing my "website data" with safari does not solve the problem for me. Honestly, lolclient shouldn't have an incompatibility issue with safari in the first place. I've never had this issue before and i've been playing this game for a really long tim. It's not being addressed at all by Riot, and it saddens me. I use to play several times a week and now I barely played in the past months because I can never login. They lost a fellow gamer. Maybe it'll be fixed by next year and I'll start playing again.

It still is happening to me. If I log in about 5-10 times, I might be able to log in at least one time.

Guys I've found a fix. I've had this problem for literally 6 months and only now have I found a working solution:

  1. Open up terminal, and copy/paste this into it: sudo /Applications/League\ of\ Legends.app/Contents/MacOS/RiotMacContainer
  2. It will prompt you for your admin password, type it in and hit return.
  3. Login to the game as normal

It will let you open the game with super privileges, more so than being just the computer admin. You have to run this code every time you login but it will work first time every time. If you try and open it up normally after using this method, you will get some error message. Hopefully Riot will implement a proper fix at some point but this is a temporary fix to play league in the meantime.

Bump.

This happened to me after the Urf patch for this weekend. I installed a couple of updates for my Mac, installed a new version of chrome, then patched to 6.8, and now this keeps happening me. I've reinstalled and repaired multiple times, I've uninstalled chrome, and nothing is helping the situation.

Every once in a while (like after 20 or 30 times of trying to log in) it would stay open, not sure what I did differently, if anything, and I was able to get a few games in.

But this is literally the most frustrating thing I have ever experienced in my life. And it seems that nobody on the internet has found any solutions.
