Attempting to Reconnect......... for days........

Ok so after several matches with this problem I have done a little investigating. While playing League with all other applications closed and shutdown I have been monitoring my router traffic through it's web gui as well as running a few constant pings to various places. When I get the attempting to reconnect issue... I literally only drop 1 ping request to say Google or Riot servers. If I end the game process I am able to immediately reconnect. However, by this time I am either already dead or have run back to base automatically. This is a huge issue Riot. I understand internet traffic very well as I myself am a network engineer for a very large corporation. 1 dropped packet should not force me to have to reconnect. The game just sits there at attempting to reconnect. I have let it sit there for upwards of 10 minutes in a normal game just to see if it would ever reconnect and it doesn't.

Now onto some further testing...... I played some Battlefield 4 recently and I did see the occasional dropped ping and very very brief drop in traffic at my router but it never interfered with a BF4 game. One dropped packet should not permanently disconnect me from a Riot game either. I am dropping this one packet to my ISP and have already raised the issue with them. However, my connection is 99% stable so it is really not a problem in the eyes of my ISP. This one dropped packet completely kills my connection in a LoL game every single time without fail. I know Riot has some sort of fault tolerance in place but it needs a serious review.

I have played LoL on some really bad connections in the past as I travel for work and have never had the connection to the game fail like this. The connection that I have been on for the duration of 4.17 so far has been one of the best connections I have had on the road. Prior to 4.17 I have dropped some packets as all links will do but I didn't get stuck at reconnecting. The game would always pick back up after about a second of reconnecting. It does not do this anymore since 4.17.

Riot, I am asking as a very dedicated customer, please look into this issue. At least provide some sort of acknowledgement that you guys are looking into this issue?

My system is an 8.1 Windows machine that is fully up to date with windows updates, firmware on routers, tried to hard wire to ISP modem, and all the other sorts.

P.S. I have also tried putting the DD-WRT firmware on my router (Asus RT-AC66U). The problem still existed. I have reverted back to the RT-AC66U firmware as I like the Asus Gui much better.

They aren't going to acknowledge this issue at all, or make even aware to anybody.. they don't want to admit their giant screwup on their North American servers. I have friends who play in EUNE server and NOBODY has this issue on there.

Riot screwed up their servers severely after trying to fix the servers for mac clients. I also suffer this 'ATR' ( attempting to reconnect ) issue and it is absolutely disgusting.. I have lost so many games because I will just randomly disconnect in the middle of fights or d/c in the middle of lane, forcing me to die. I have dropped several tiers in my ranked matches simply because I disconnect randomly.. I can be sitting in base, or in death screen and bam.. I am plagued by this attempting to reconnect. It can happen up to 10 times in a single match.

Riot will never address this issue because they believe nothing is wrong with their servers. Patch 4.16 had zero issues, I've seen this issue arise sinve patch 4.17.. and we're now at patch 4.18, how pathetic is this?.. 2 patches later and zero fixes for the NA servers.

This same issue is the reason my account is currently banned. It says I've been leaving games, when prior to the same patch, I had no issue. I contacted Riot's support system, and all they want to tell me is that it's my internet, not their servers. My net has yet to change, and I've seen this happen to so many players since that patch.

Its total bullcrap.

One person has responded, and quite frankly, in a way that seems pissed at us. I mean, I understand that so many people are rushing them and saying WE HAVE THIS PROBLEM. And on their end I would be like JESUS GIVE ME A SECOND.

But as you can see, this person said there was no problem to begin with so... Yeah.

I lag out and see this every single game now. Yeah, I'm on mediocre wifi, but on nothing else I play does a game constantly shit the bed like Riot's does. Every. Single. Game. I see Attempting to Reconnect.

It is not my connection, because my ping is fine, my connection is stable enough for any other game.

YOUR SERVERS ARE AWFUL.

Honestly, i stopped playing this game purely because of this issue... they don't care therefore i'm not going to care about them. They released a patch that's affecting thousands of players and they don't acknowledge it at all and they aren't working to fix it.. they're just going to let it sit there so no point in trying to play anymore when you just get dc'd over and over unless you want to move over to latin america north.

Riot should have employees that work from their house, that way they can see their server issues from player perspective and know what the issue is. It isn't always a matter of "get better internet." Often times it really is the servers.

I am so tired of this problem. I can't even do bot games anymore. I just got this problem back to back within 5 minutes. Everything else on my computer works just fine. I don't lag in any other game or anything else I do. Its just LoL. I really wanna play this game. I know that one red post said something but it didnt really say anything. I just want to be able to play lag/DC free. They keep saying that its not widespread. Well how come so many ppl are experiencing it. I was spectating a friends ranked game. The ENTIRE team had the problem at the same time. Its getting stupid.

Bump. I've had this happen on 3 different internet connections, on 2 different accounts (this smurf and my main), and all game types. To reiterate: when playing, I'll get the "Attempting to reconnect..." and lose control of my champion. Naturally, I try to ping google and a few other sites and servers and it works fine (my connection is still active and working). I've tried the close LoL and re-open a few times but right when I get to 100% on the loading screen, the game crashes and I am presented with the reconnect button (and I continue to try and reconnect... and it keeps crashing).

Anyway, just wanted to add my story to the list. I hope Riot will fix this.

Having same issue since patch 4.17. I have seen several discussions on this issue on the boards, I think it's safe to say the player is not to blame for this.

This happens to me fairly often, the easiest way to get back in the game is just to leave the game and then reconnect to it. The problem is, I recently got banned for 24 hours because i was disconnecting from too many games. So now I just sit there until the game ends, or until it finally reconnects. It sucks because it's usually a ranked match, i went from my promos on my way to S4, to having 0 lp still in S5 because every single match this happens to me or my teammates.

in to say I have the same issue. Riot please, this time of year is when depression is worst for me and I play league as an escape. I don't need league causing me more stress at this time....

Same thing is happening with me. I play on Mac, and I've had "attempting to reconnect" AT LEAST once in EVERY single game I have played since 4.18. Furthermore, it never actually reconnects, I have to leave the game and come back in, which takes a few mins which is kind of a big deal, especially when the last game I played it happened 4-5 times, and other games usually 2-3 times. This is ridiculous and makes it almost unplayable for me. Please fix this, seriously.

@Riot,

I am a network engineer for General Dynamics. As a customer that is having this issue and know the frustrations behind it, I will gladly work with anyone of your engineers to help diagnose this problem.

I have a very firm grasp of networking and unlike a large majority of the player base I am capable of understand the networks and the complexities that go into them. I am willing to provide anything that Riot needs to troubleshoot this issue. Logs/network stats. Traces/pings. Anything. I just want this problem fixed. I experienced it again today and upon logging back in my tower was being taken by my lane opponent that I was beating pretty handily.

So please Riot, I am willing to take the time to work with you guys to isolate the issue. If this is at all possible, please let me know.

Riot is too busy counting shekels to care about this. Even in the face of OP's experiments and findings Riot will still tell everyone "It's your fault, we're awesome." If this isn't fixed by next patch I'm done with this game.

This isn't 100% a Riot side problem... there are many variables that come into play with connection stability.

Just here to say I am sick of this issue and I have it as well. It has destroyed my games. Riot needs to fix this, ASAP. I am a money spender for this game and I want it fixed, as does everyone else here. The worst part is.... You get all of these people that have the issue and a bunch of others that are 1) Too lazy to comment on the forums. 2) Just gave up and "accept" it.

Fix this Riot, from a dedicated customer.

1 drop packet = its a drop hack dude.

they are ignoring it because they cant fix it without rebuilding the servers from the ground up, its really annoying everybody and their kid brother is doing it now.

i like to think once the servers are rebuilt theres going to be alot of bad players in higher elo from abusing this, but they will just find another way im sure.

Whenever I experience lag now, I get an "Attempting to reconnect" banner splashed across my screen. Even after reconnection has been re-established (Champion and minion actions are accurately being portrayed on my screen, I compared with a second computer), the banner does not go away and I do not regain control of my champion. I am forced to force quit the application, at which point pvp.net recognizes the disconnect and allows me to reconnect to the match. The sad thing is that reconnecting from scratch takes less time than sitting and waiting for the 'autoreconnect' banner to go away (I've waited five minutes before and it's still there).

Would love for this to get fixed.

How many of you experiencing this bug are playing over wifi? I was having the same problem on any of my machines when connected over wifi. Using an ethernet cable solved my issues, hope it works for some of you as well.

I would also like to request that we keep this thread civil. I am not posting this to bash Riot in anyway. I understand that servers/networking is not a perfection but an ever changing landscape of hardware and configurations.

huge issue here for me too. at first I'd leave to reconnect immediately but end up way behind laning. jungle is almost unsalvageable after taking blue/red then dying in the next buff camp while eating hits to the face being DCed. get back in, ATR all over again

mid gank or laning phase - go in but then ATR spammed and end up walking to the enemy tower. its been like this for near 2 weeks, apparently they don't find it an issue

I was at P1 100 LP, in Series game... patch 4.17 came and i lost my series , now i'm at P3.... DC every single match. cant even have 1 normal game, at this rate i'll get demoted to Gold -.-

At least once or twice every game my game says "attempting to reconnect". On top of that, lately for the past 2 weeks, my character will freeze for about 5 seconds every few minutes. I'm not really sure how this can be fixed. It never used to do this, and it doesn't seem like it's something on my end. Does anyone have any advice?

Has there been any resolution to this? Still having this difficulty - the problem started in august, and momentarily stopped in December. I've been able to play up until tonight, but then I experienced the "Attempting to Reconnect" in one of my games, and was unable to rejoin the game.

Hopefully some users found a solution.

I believe that I found a possible solution to the the repetitious disconnecting bug that many players have been having. It has plagued me for several days, but realizing that League of Legends relies on Internet Explorer, I decided to check to see if there was a problem there.

My Internet Explorer could not connect to the Internet, but Google Chrome could, which I thought was strange. i made sure that I had the most up-to-date IE version and updated Windows as well. After rebooting my computer, I still could not connect to the internet via IE. I decided to check my version of Java and found out that it was out-of-date. I updated Java and deleted the older version.

After updating Java, Internet Explorer worked fine and could connect to the internet. I connected to League of Legends and have not had the repetitious disconnect problem in the games that I have played.

Please research this to see if this is a possible solution to the disconnecting issue that has occurred since the recent patches. Please review my original post in the "Players Disconnecting" in the Help and Support thread with the history of attempts to fixing the problem before realizing this.
