[GAMEPLAY] Mordekaiser Ultimate + "Spoils of War" interaction

Recently in a game, I was using the "Spoils of War" passive (Relic Shield, Targon's Brace or Face of the Mountain) on some minions and I noticed that it was sharing the gold with the nearby friendly Mordekaiser's ult ghost. When I asked the Mordekaiser he said that he wasn't getting the gold so I am wondering where that gold goes? Does it disappear into nothing or am I giving it to the enemy champion? This is probably a bug, but also a mystery to be solved >:)
