Jayce E acting weird?

Was in ARAM just now and several times when I went to use my Melee form E (I was deinfately in range) It would use my CD for E but would not actually use the ability. It was not every time I used it, just a few times. This has never happened before, until today. Ranged form E worked normally. Have not tried to replicate.
