[GAMEPLAY] - Velkoz melee doesn't proc execution passive in Relic Shield line

As of patch 7.10 Velkoz can equip Relic Shield but when I tested in Custom (Bot v Bot) It doesn't proc execution. He never does the execution damage despite being melee despite a bot/ai champ being nearby. I haven't tested live yet for fear of just ruining the game for people around me. I will have a friend join a game to ensure it isn't an Bot/AI related issue later tonight.

EDIT: Situation clarified in Comments and I understand that Vel'Koz doesn't perform melee attacks.

Can you expand? Thresh has ranged melee and is considered melee. I've talked with people playing since season 1 and they agree this is a legitimate discussion topic at the least.

Just look it up on wikipedia, it has 0 things to do weaponry and all to do with their actual range. Thresh and Velkoz are considered ranged. They are in no way melee despite their animations looking like VelKoz using its appendages. He is not trolling you. He's correct about Velkoz (but wrong about Thresh).

So why does Thresh qualify for the Relic Shield line then? I'm not being sarcastic. I'm asking honestly. And I tried to look it up for the past few days. I can't find a rational answer. I see people just state "he is a mage" or "that is ranged". Is ranged defined as non melee despite any implied possibility of it being melee? If I have a huge sword that can reach across a room then I can melee you from across the room despite the RANGE between us. Is this just a "by design" situation then and this is just the way things are? I guess I'm just incredibly literal so that is why I am asking such clarification. Leona gets a pretty large range boost after using her ult that also applies to the relic shield line as well.

Thresh does NOT UTILIZE the melee execute. As an old Thresh main, and someone who still plays Thresh, he will absolutely not use the execute from Relic shield. He uses Relic Shield because he needs the tankiness, BUT he won't execute minions. So to proc the orbs, he legitimately has to last hit the minion. As for that though, I haven't played Thresh since Coin changes came out so he might have switched since Relic Shield's main downfall for THresh is because the melee execute safety net didn't work for him so he could mess it up for him and the ADC.

Ahhhh, so I don't play thresh and is in fact about the only support I don't care to try. So he doesn't execute. Hmmm. Well then that explains everything then. Thank you.

I believe once auto attack range exceeds a certain value its then considered ranged. The same applies with Rakan. Its just something to avoid exploiting certain melee item only effects I believe.

People making complaints that Thresh can't proc the excavate passive because they don't realize he's ranged is the meme. You see threads every so often trying to report it as a bug.

Ahhhh, That makes sense. I wasn't trolling. I saw relic shield on thresh and immediately assumed that execution was valid. Someone else had told me thresh was melee so that didn't help. Basically, I thought it was an inconsistency. Someone, above, clarified that execution isn't applied to thresh and thus I'm 100% convinced that it is consistent across the board. Interestingly enough, I see something valid in Vel'koz using Relic Shield as Support. It can, theoretically, grant more gold and conserve mana compared to using Spell Thief.

vel is ranged and so is thresh lol you have to actually last hit for the gold and health and when vel gets close he doesn't have a new animation you just don't see a laser
