[GAMEPLAY] Banshees veil and ryze

I was 1v1'ing a friend casually and I was ryze while he was aurelion sol. He bought banshees veil and when he went to lane i couldnt do my combos. basically banshees veil is blocking more than 1 ability form a champ if it happens fast enough. I tried the e -> w -> q combo to ge a shield and it did no damage at all as the effect slowly dissipated. It happened consistently and I would have to wait for the the banshees visual effect to disappear before any of my spells would work. This seems like a pretty significant problem as it makes my burst obsolete.
