Unable to select a champion due to mastery page

Was first pick, bans went down just fine. I was preparing my mastery page after all bans were out, except I had a blitz picture over where the close button is. I hit escape, but couldn't close the mastery page (or get rid of the blitz picture), so I was flagged as a failure to select a champion, and removed from pre game lobby.
