Just as the title states, my Sophos Anti-Virus is detecting the new league patch as a virus and shows this --> Patching failed and we're not sure why. Please restart the client to try patching again. (Error code 004).
It comes up as a Trojan... never happened before, so I'm wondering what's going on.

Avast's as bad news as Sophos and whatnot. AVG's a large bag of warm chuggle as well. All of them are going to periodically throw false positives at you or completely break one of your applications. I've fixed countless broken PCs just by deinstalling these.

At least Sophos works and uses no noticable amount of resources. I would rather make an exception for a program than running a windows computer without AV

There are far more AVs than sophos, avast and AVG. Most of them won't cause any trouble.

So does Sophos (cant speak for the other two). Its just a matter of how sensitive the heuristics are, and AV without heuristics are useless for new signatures, so its really a tradeoff
RIP Tahm Kench1 votesAvast user of several years - never really had any false positives that break programs at all (except for when my university forced me to get a second AV). The only thing that I can ever say I was mad at Avast for was deleting sketchy "Keygen" files obtained through torrents back in the days of cd keys.
Also, I would never want to deinstall programs, uninstalling is much better.

Lucky you! I mean, it's expected that most users won't have issues. Too many still have. In all fairness I've fixed more than a dozen computers just by uninstalling Avast.

Or you can add the .exe to the exception list instead of installing Shitware

Astorine2 votesNot the first time lol has been found to throw malware at you, although it is possible that the antivirus is just bullshitting, however if you have had it for a while then it is probably telling the truth. My avast is fine with lol's patch.

PowerSlave9932 votesYou don't even need to use antivirus. If you have good brain and you have good knowledge on internet, then having antivirus is just pointless. I don't have it for 3 years and still didn't caught a single trojan,etc. Only some minor pup which are easily removed.

3TWarrior1 votesmost malware can run using only a few kilobytes or megabytes of ram and some do not even have a listed process within any standard program (as in you have to go to special, devoted thirdparties for their programs to see what is really happening)
I've had avast and other AV's block malware just from banner ads and silent drive-by attacks on SAFE websites
only the bad malware code tends to get noticed unless the goal of the malware IS TO BE NOTICED, ransomware for example.
it is not as easy to get infected just by connecting to the internet now, but it still happens!
if you want an antivirus that is minimally intrusive, does not write to the hard disk for signatures, can be installed to an external drive if desired and uses a MINIMAL amount of system resources, try Panda antivirus. It's free and developed in Spain. Only issue now and again is a false positive, but it's rare

Timinterrante1 votesFor those who still having this issue, add the league of legends.exe as an exception in the sophos dashboard. On my pc the route for the exception was "C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\RADS\projects\lol_game_client\releases\0.0.1.174\deploy\League of Legends.exe". This is a temporary fix, and i hope riot and sophos can work this issue out.
