Captain Gangplank

I know im very late about this but i only recently started playing league again and i decided to main Gangplank however i recently found out you could have got the Captain Gangplank skin for free, although im aware ive missed the event i do however know i have played gangplank before his rework and did own him so i was wondering if i could have some clarity on this.
